Should I file a grievance???

Okay so I’ve been at my current center for a year now today officially, so therefore my seniority “dovetails” or goes into effect finally. I’ve been at UPS in total almost 3 years in February. I work the local sort and they still have me load the trucks some nights when I know there are other people that don’t load with less seniority than me. I’ve had enough of it. I understood when I was low man on totem pole but I figured by now I wouldn’t have to load anymore. They have another guy in car wash every night and I KNOW for a fact he has less seniority than me. His dad is a mechanic at our center too so I’m wondering if he’s getting special treatment because of it?! Should I say something? File a grievance? Thanks!

What else do they have you do?

Also, have you talked to management about wanting to not load?

Do they have a preferred list of jobs at your center

Take it as a back handed compliment. Many of the workers you see doing bulk, splitting, or washing trucks can’t load. It’s beyond their abilities. Slow, unable to write HINs on boxes. Stacking versus loading. You’ll notice most sups couldn’t load if their lives depended on it. But they sat in some training class, so they’re suppose to be good. Most UPS facilities are overrun with broken scanners. Preload is a joke. File that grievance immediately. UPS and your alleged brother/sisters don’t work as hard as you, but they get the same pay. It’s Socialism in the workplace.

Filing immediately may be a mistake, and that is why I asked if OP had spoken to management about this.

In 710, we are required to take our issue up with immediate supervisor, then steward and immediate supervisor, then grievance.

Turdferguson asking if they have a preferred jobs listing for the center is much more useful.
We are (at least in my local, and national), allowed to bid on our preferred jobs within the building.
That means types, not areas. I can bid on preload, but not on a specific set of trucks. Etc...

If there was a bid sheet up for car wash, and OP didn't sign it at the time, and the lower seniority guy did, then there isn't anything to grieve.

More information needed.

They pick favorites.
Been here 2 years and some guy who has been here a month is already scanning every morning.
Just stands there by the belt with his ipod in jamming and peeling stickers.
*boop*....*boop*...*boop*...

Meanwhile I'm stuck in a nightmare pull struggling to keep up and almost dislocating my ankle every day from the :censored2:ed up parking job the idiot sup did.

That's life.

We don’t have bid sheets for certain jobs. Mostly everyone has their own jobs they are good at and not good at. Example I’ve never loaded the air truck. But depending on call ins which happen on a daily basis, people get moved around.

Sorry should’ve said that. Sometimes I load, sometimes I do car wash. Been to Integrad twice and failed because I’m not comfortable driving the trucks enough. They know I want to be a driver. But I can’t get familiar with the trucks if I don’t do it every day. It’s just frustrating.

So, you’ve flunked out of integrad twice how many chances do you think you’ll need before you get “comfortable driving the trucks”

I’m going to try one more time :censored2:. You must be an awesome person but I’ve been loading trucks I don’t drive them every day but I’m certified to do car wash. Instead they put me in a truck.

You’ve said 3 or 4 times you want to be a driver

Not sure if you know this but at ups that usually involves some of type of truck/package car
