socialized healthcare

That's a silly argument, we have 2 oceans that protect us from the rest of the world. It's pretty impractical to invade our shores. Our giant military that circles the globe is there to protect trade lanes. All countries are mostly free to ship goods around the world because we control the seas and the sky. It is probably difficult to determine if the value we receive in cheap goods is equal to our expenditure in the military, but I'd guess it's close.
The border with Canada is wide open and we could easily invaded from there .

Meanwhile on the issue of healthcare, today Senator Chuck Schumer stated that single payer is now on the table with democrats.

Now it gets interesting.

you should look at countries that dont spend alot on military and ask why arent they invaded, why dont they have terror?
Like Ukraine, Syria, Iran, and Kuwait?

With others, could it be because they are our allies? We would be a much bigger prize than any other country.

are you joking? those are all countries america has meddled with big time.

america just expanded NATO to ukraine after it promised russia it would not go east of germany.

you overthrew the democratically elected president of iran in 1953.

you should actually look into which countries spend little on defense" and look up from some reputable sources how much you should be spending on "defense".

So you want countries that the US has no involvement in whatsoever? That limits it quite a bit. Maybe it is Canada's fault, they meddled at one time or another in most of them too.

Freakin Canada, problem of all the ills in the world.

Why a Republican Senator Wanted a Vote on Single-Payer Health Care

The Senate voted down a single-payer health care amendment introduced by Republican Senator Steve Daines on Thursday, in a political gambit aimed at putting Senate Democrats on the record on a divisive issue. The amendment failed to pass after no lawmakers from either party voted for it. Fifty-seven Senators voted against the amendment, while 43 voted simply “present.” Four Democrats voted against the amendment: Senators Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, and Jon Tester of Montana.

But the democrats have been calling for single payer and when given the chance veto it .

Obese patients and smokers banned from routine surgery in 'most severe ever' rationing in the NHS

Hospital leaders in North Yorkshire said that patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above – as well as smokers – will be barred from most surgery for up to a year amid increasingly desperate measures to plug a funding black hole. The restrictions will apply to standard hip and knee operations.

Chris Hopson, the head of NHS Providers, which represents acute care, ambulance and community services, said: “I think we are going to see more and more decisions like this.

“It’s the only way providers are going to be able to balance their books, and in a way you have to applaud their honesty. You can see why they’re doing this – the service is bursting at the seams.”

Under the latest restrictions, patients who have a BMI of 30 or more will be barred from routine surgery for non-life-threatening conditions for a year, although they may secure a referral sooner if they shed 10 per cent of their weight.

Smokers who refuse to quit will have planned operations postponed for six months, but may be included on surgeons’ waiting lists earlier by proving they have given up for at least eight weeks.

The ban will not apply to cancer patients, or those with some conditions that could becoming life-threatening, or if exceptional circumstances can be shown.

they should tax the cigarette companies and fast food companies for socializing their costs.

im sure your aware they are trying to privatize the NHS and there is a big struggle to save it. they pay a flat rate on medicine in UK.

capitalism is the economic system. the US govt spends 1.5 trillion on war every year:

Before that, though, Winkler has another stop to make: the grocery store dumpster. That’s where she gathers the fruit and vegetables that will sustain her throughout the week. What she does not eat she will can, freeze or dry for even leaner times.

Winkler’s husband, David, has Alzheimer’s disease. She can no longer care for the 69-year-old in the converted garage she calls home. Every month, Winkler now writes a hefty check to pay for her husband’s assisted living facility. And when it comes to her own needs and wants, Winkler makes do.

After she’s paid the bills, she tries to live on just $30 a month. While $1 a day doesn’t go very far, Winkler knows she needs to have something in savings to pay for the increased cost of David’s care as his condition worsens.

The Winklers represent the intersection of two Gem State demographic trends. Idaho’s population is graying faster than the nation as a whole. And more than a third of the state’s households have difficulty making ends meet each month,
