i dont see many of my Districts staff on the list...as far as 1800 jobs cut...I see the vast majority of them coming from manager, sup, specialist and admins of the now defunct staffs of Districts past. I did some math and see 22 less package division manager positions than there were before the new alignment so it looks like some package divisions were consolidated on top of the District staffs no longer needed.

I see all my current Division Managers. Many names don't know. Do we assume these current Division Managers will stay in their current areas???

I think the VAST MAJORITY of the cuts will come from specialists and admins in those soon to be defunct districts. Or if these people are willing to travel, they will bump those with lesser seniority in the new district office.

When all is said and done not much different from past consolidations.... Except this time, higher ups were giving a lucrative buy out.

This has been very anti-climatic... IMO. But we will have to see how the new way of doing business really works out - or will it be business as usual...

That was my understanding as well. That being said, does anyone see any demotions on the list? I don't see any, but there are many names I don't know.

I am aware of many demotions. Not at district manager yet though. I'm surprised by this, but not all is announced yet.

I'm not aware of any forced separations yet either.... There may be less of these than we think....

I don't know if this is good or bad.

At this point it looks like we have three divison managers not accounted for in the new job listings. Still trying to find out what happened to them.

Rumor has it one divison manager in the old southeast region threw a major canniption fit when told his good news wednesday and that he may have walked out and quit. Supposedly left screaming at the region manager.

When you devote the greater part of your adult life, buy in to a partnership and take pride in the company that you work for and would like to continue working for, I am sure that it would not be easy to be told that your services are no longer required. I would have to think that he was hoping to leave on his own terms.

I see one Dist Mgr who is now a OPS manager in a new district. Don't know a lot of the other names.

I count about 5 Div Mgrs I know that I did not see on ANY list. Divison Managers don't have divisions yet because each district is realigning the divisions and the structure has not been given yet.

Our district is having a "people's meetings" next month. One would assume the structure for the divisions will be given to the Div Mgrs at that point. From there based on the structure you will see managers moved around based on divisional layout- Stay Tuned

Bigdog, do you think most of the Division Managers who were assigned within their old/new districts, probably will be assigned to their old divisions - at least in the beginning.

Very insightful Dave.
I have talked to 7 people who are leaving UPS and to the person this is exactly what their feelings are.
The communications from UPS acknowledged this was a hard process for the company and the people affected.
It is also hard on the people not "directly" impacted. What we all need is to get this over with and start moving towards the new purpose.

Hoax,

Are you talking about people that took the buyout??

Many of my friends took the offer and this is a common feeling among them.. However.... Not one has any ill feelings. Almost every one said it was a tough decision.

Well put. I know a few people in limbo and a couple that are being forced to relo their families (or else ?). The ones I've heard from feel that our upper management has chosen wall street over them. They're wondering why they gave more than a fair day's work all those years.

ENE

I also noticed a Division Manager from ENE who got promoted years ago to District Mgr (not sure where, though, possibly Mid West) He is not any assigned lists. Not of retirement age either.

Red Rose...that former ENE Div Mgr has/is in Public Affairs in Washington.

It is definitely a sad time at UPS. I feel for the folks that made many sacrifices over the years, moving their families multiple times, maybe in their late 40's and they are out of a job. Let's see how the new structure works out and that we don't put a bunch of people on "special assignment" or sit them on the "bench".

All I heard that all mid managers in ene must come starting monday 3/15 wearing a suit coat and tie. They need to have picture taken one front view and at 45 degree (side view) sounds like a mug shot if you ask me.But next 2 weeks you will see managers dissappear and done by 4/5/10 ups is right on there time line buy out 80 mill off the books 1st quarter of 2010. You will not se any announcement like last friday. the ones are let go will just dissappear and we will find word of mouth. probally by our feeder network???????????????????????????????

I would think so, especially in the large hub and feeder divisions. i think where you will see the most change is in the package divisions especially if they start consolidating centers and giving center mgrs bigger centers. Rumor has it that center managers should have at least a 1 per 80 ratio minimum on mgr to drivers they manage.

Staff positions (IE, PE, Secuity, HR, etc) I think would cause change in the reporting structure as well since districts got bigger and Div Mgrs responsible for these functions now have larger territories to cover.
