You've got it backwards. The previous administration along with leaders of various Federal agencies tried to unseat a duly elected president by building a false narrative that he was colluding with Russians. A "soft coup" if you will. One of a number of false narratives they came up with concerning him. The Jan. 6th riot wasn't an insurrection, it was outrage over how Trump had been treated up to and including what many believe to be a rigged election.
Thats true too. if jan 6 succeeded it would be been a successful coup.
