If our allies are going to cut and run then we should damn well make sure our military equipment doesn't fall into the hands of the enemy. That was our equipment of our military we left behind. It was stockpiled, not being used by the Afghanis, they had their own equipment we had supplied at our taxpayers expense. Among that stockpiled were our uniforms that the Taliban has been running around in and made a mockery of the famous pic at Iwo Jima of our guys raising our flag by raising their own flag in a similar fashion while wearing OUR uniforms. And we are engaged all over the world. To say it's no longer worth our while to be in one particular country isn't isolationist. Buy a clue!

I agree this war and punishing people needs to be done better, that’s why I avoid voting for people like Obama and Trump who promise to surrender in the Middle East, that is usually a non starter for me. Only reason I voted for the Trump the second time is his Middle East policy was extremely good, american strength being projected over there, huge break throughs happening actually developing relations with Israel and muslim nations. America being there to kill terrorists opens the doors to a lot of good things in that region of the world. Bin Ladin was based there to hide from the West, but most Al-Qaeda operatives were Muslims from across the Muslim world. Bin Ladin himself was from a prominent Saudi family and most of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudis. This is widely known. And Bin Laden was part of the effort to defeat the Soviets. When we invaded Iraq the people we were primarily fighting were Al-Qaeda which not only included mostly Iraqis but also Muslims from around the world including from the U.S. and Europe. They most likely included some Taliban but most were from other countries. Afghanistan will give these people a safe haven but we've a lot more to worry about with our own government having an open border policy which most likely has let some Muslim extremists in already.

We're in that region of the world because we're once again dependent on Middle East oil. Our government needs to reestablish oil independence and get out of that region. One thing that has always struck me about American foreign policy is that a lot of Americans foolishly believe that what the American potus wants, or what military leadership wants in Afghanistan or Iraq or Iran or Syria, is more important than what the citizens of those nation's want.
