I’m currently have mine set as married with 1 dependent.

Everyone’s tax situation is different. Having said that when I had kids I could claim I never paid. I always got a return.

Once my kids could no longer be claimed I started owing. I now claim married with zero and take an additional $40 a week out for federal I pretty much breakeven.

We both always did did single 0, we still owed but less.

I do single, 2. My wife and I file jointly. We have two dependent children. No additional taken out. I max out my 401k, but it's traditional and not Roth so that helps tax time (which is the point).

You should put some in the ROTH.
You don't have to do it in your 401k you can open a ROTH IRA.

I did not add because it doesn't affect my tax situation, but I also max out a Roth IRA and we contribute as much as we can to my wife's Roth 401k.

I tried to put just enough in my 4o1k to keep me out of the next tax bracket.
My wife does not make a lot of money but they did not take the proper amount of taxes out.

But I'm sure glad for that ROTH money.
