The Matrix is a 'trans metaphor', Lilly Wachowski says
Lilly Wachowski, who came out as trans in 2016, says the "world wasn't quite ready" in 1999.www.bbc.com
"The Matrix films are about being transgender, the trilogy's co-director says.
"That was the original intention but the world wasn't quite ready," says Lilly Wachowski, who came out as trans along with her sister Lana after the films came out.
Fans have speculated about potential meanings behind the iconic films and Lilly confirmed the theory to Netflix.
"I'm glad that it has gotten out," she said.
The Matrix first hit screens in 1999, when Lilly says "the corporate world wasn't ready" for an allegory - a story that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning - about transgender people.
But the director says the films have always been "meaningful" for trans people."

OK, there's a matrix. I just cancelled it out.The matrix is when u say there is none
Because the movie "The Matrix" made a lot of money for its producers. That's what was left over after they took a risk and invested a lot of money in the story, paid a lot of money on the cast, crew, advertising, etc, and got wealthier than they already were. Your favorite movie was a perfect example of capitalism at work. You think it represents some great truth that only people like you can see and don't realize without capitalism you never would have seen it. That theater you sat in to watch it? Capitalism. Those late nights you watched it on Showtime or whatever? Brought to you by capitalism. The DVD you bought at Wal-Mart so that you can watch it over and over on your DVD player? All brought to you by capitalism. A lifestyle you take for granted but many in many countries dream of having. Capitalism. How do u know capitalism actually works
Alot of the tech is likely govt (defense dept) funded in part.Because the movie "The Matrix" made a lot of money for its producers. What you don't get is if we have socialism as an economic model the people who risked a lot of capital to produce the movie wouldn't have because they would've had to pay much higher taxes on profits. They have no way of knowing going in if the movie would be profitable enough or if they would lose money on it. That's the risk they take. But with socialism's much higher taxes it's a risk not worth taking. That's why everything falls apart under a purely socialist model. The story itself may have all the elements you say but that doesn't get the movie made. The potential for high profits does. Your favorite movie got made and distributed because of capitalism.Alot of the tech is likely govt (defense dept) funded in part.
Socialism has profits too u know.
Many americams hated capitalism so much they almost got rid of it. this was 1800s i think.
The matrix is a product of more than just capitalism, the ideas go back a long time, like socrates, east and west religions
@Box Ox we got another tyranny dictator lover over here! u better sort him out!
Everything is in the process of falling apart under capitalism which matrix trilogy covers especially revolutions. theres 2 ways of looking at it that i thought of, 1 is theres evil in all of us which turns us in part into monopolists who destroy everything for profit. 2 is wat marx said which is unregulated capitalism will consume everything until it consumes itself. What you don't get is if we have socialism as an economic model the people who risked a lot of capital to produce the movie wouldn't have because they would've had to pay much higher taxes on profits. It takes a lot of money to make a film like "The Matrix" and nobody just throws money at something if they know they're going to lose it. Capitalism is risking capital in hopes of making a profit. Your favorite movie got made because of capitalism. You can rant all you want, you would've never heard of "The Matrix" if some really rich people hadn't put up the money to make it. Capitalism, it's what's for dinner.Everything is in the process of falling apart under capitalism which matrix trilogy covers especially revolutions. theres 2 ways of looking at it that i thought of, 1 is theres evil in all of us which turns us in part into monopolists who destroy everything for profit. 2 is wat marx said which is unregulated capitalism will consume everything until it consumes itself.
America used to have over 90% top marginal tax rate. were u socialist back then? maybe moreso than now. afterall weve been under neoliberalism since reagan.
Ppl dont do things just for profit. i dont do things just for profit. stories existed b4 capitalism and other economic systems involve risk to all parties as well. capitalism has only been around a few hundred years and it wont last 100 more unless its quite dofferent from wat it is now. b4 capitalism there was profits, and stories, and likely even socialism where workers owned their labor.
