The wisdom of Ronald Reagan

ImWaitingForTheDay

Annoy a conservative....Think for yourself
He brought the Soviet Union to its knees, didn't he? He freed 10s of millions of people in that process too. No matter what you do, you can't destroy the popularity of Reagan.

The Soviet Empire was too diverse and only held together by force. Like all such empires before it the Soviet Disunion was doomed to fall. If we don't stop our internal decay the same fate awaits us. Sad to say it seems like major elements of the Reichwing want that to happen to bring about the Rapture or whatever.

Saw the movie Kill the Messenger based on the Gary Webb/Dark Alliance story. The irony of Reagan's so called stance against drugs while at the least folks in his administration looked the other way so the crack cocaine epidemic in America's African American communities could explode to continue the covert financing of the Contra War.

No way Ray-gun would get elected today...

I find it interesting that Reagan is somehow the pillar of the Republican community; he's a hero, an icon, almost a Saint.

There are so many critiques of Obama that would easily fit for Reagan, just fuzz your eyes and switch the names.

I guess I just don't get it - what is the fascination with Reagan?

He wasn't that great of a President.

Whats most amazing about Reagan is he gave the Republican party the roadmap to unparallelled success. A roadmap they have foolishly thrown in the trash nearly the day he left office. The culmination of which has caused the party to evolve from the party of conservative ideals and individual liberty to a democrat-lite party that promotes its own by pushing support for food stamps and labeling their own base as racist.

You can look at all the numbers and charts you want too, but this one says everything. When people are voting for you like this, then you are doing something right.

Using the german people as a gauge, Hitler was doing something right as well per your conclusion.

When it comes to electing political leaders, Americans more often than not prove not to be the best gauge of human quality. They are too prone to believe the :censored2: they are fed by said politicians in the first place.

Exactly.

Reagan hurt this country deeply. Reagan hurt social security and its hasnt been repayed. Reagan tripled the size of the postal service. Reagan increased the size of government way beyond any other president. Reagan raised taxes on the middle classs 7 times to make up for his budget shortfalls.

And lastly, Reagan was the first president to run a federal deficit that exceeded 1 trillion dollars, taking it to 3.7 trillion dollars. At the time, it was MORE than all the previous presidents before him combined.

Reagan wasnt a hero, and in todays world, he would be more of a democrat than a republican.

TOS.

I think you'll appreciate the film. Gary in many respects was vindicated and yet the film also showed some of his flaws. Not just as a journalist but as a father/husband as well. But it was clear that he ruffled many feathers and it was interesting to watch who and how the attack dogs emerged.

Here are some other wonderful photos of Ronald Reagan that worked out so well for us. These guys have only killed thousands of US MILITARY personnel, but heck, Reagan called them:

Inordinately Right
"In the weeks immediately after the bombing, I believe the last thing that we should do was turn tail and leave. Yet the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics forced us to rethink our policy there. If there would be some rethinking of policy before our men die, we would be a lot better off. If that policy had changed towards more of a neutral position and neutrality, those 241 marines would be alive today."

Reagan and the CIA were dancing around the idea of arming Mujahadin fighters in order to fight back against Soviet incursion in Afghanistan. The result was a well-armed, well-trained group of jihadis who resisted (some say defeated) the onslaught of superior Soviet weaponry.
Once the Soviets retreated, the U.S. lost interest and pulled the funding. Osama bin Laden took interest, and filled the vacuum, later fathering the Taliban.
