July 30 th. 1975 - U.S.A. Jimmy Hoffa
1975 : Jimmy Hoffa the ex president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is last seen in Last seen in Bloomfield Township ( suburb of Detroit ) , MI. Although presumed dead, his remains have never been found. To this day, Hoffa's fate remains a mystery but was declared legally dead in 1982.

On August 6, 1945, the American bomber Enola Gay dropped a five-ton bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. A blast equivalent to the power of 15,000 tons of TNT reduced four square miles of the city to ruins and immediately killed 80,000 people.

In an evening televised address on August 8, 1974, President Richard M. Nixon announces his intention to become the first president in American history to resign. With impeachment proceedings underway against him for his involvement in the Watergate affair, Nixon was finally bowing to pressure from the public and Congress to leave the White House.

12 Aug, 2000 - Russia K-141 Kursk Submarine
2000 : The Russian Oscar-II class nuclear submarine K-141 Kursk and its 118-man crew were lost during naval exercises in the Barents Sea, the cause was believed to have been an explosion on board the submarine which caused the sub to sink to the ocean depths

1945 - Truman Announces Japanese Surrender
1945 : President Truman announces Japan has accepted terms for unconditional surrender following the second nuclear bomb on Nagasaki on the August 9thjust a few days before, The agreement to the terms of the Potsdam Terms had been agreed on the 10th August but not made public till this date.

1920 : The 19th Amendment, guaranteeing women the right to vote, is formally adopted into the U.S. Constitution.

Tex Johnston, Boeing Test Pilot Barrel-rolled the Boeing 367-80 (later designated the 707) in 1955!!

The Dash 80 was a prototype but not quite the same as the 707. It needed a lot of modifications before being a passenger liner. The fuselage was a little too narrow for instance.
I know. Kind of summarized it for the benefit of a short post.
I’ve seen Dr Strangelove several times and think about this every time I see Slim Pickens.
Must have been a hell of a character!
