You're voting for Darwinian capitalism. Mankind is better than that. As far as I'm concerned one should do the very best one can, no matter the work. Go as far as you can based on your abilities if you choose to, but always try. But our system rewards some more than others and for many to succeed financially others have to come up short. If not please explain to me all the $8-$12hr jobs out there? If only all jobs paid at least $30hr and beyond without the corresponding prices that would require. They don't, never will, and some who see themselves as a winner are quick to tell others less well paid to accept their lot in life. If the system rewards some at the expense, even exploitation, of others, fine. But those who benefit the most from the system should be willing to at least assist in the retirement and care of those who helped them succeed. But too many hate having to do things like match Social Security contributions and would end the program tomorrow. My father is 83, has everything paid for and about $140k in the bank, down from one point $325k. He's a retired minister, doesn't live an extravagant life, and if he didn't have his $1800 a month Social Security he'd be broke. There are millions like him. And many millions with less SS, no savings, and barely scrape by. Social Security and Medicare are the best ideas the Democrats have ever had. Doesn't mean we should continue to spend like crazy, but a great nation can afford a social safety net that we can all benefit from.

My brother makes 3 times what I do and his wife is an RN with a profitable Airbnb sideline to boot. Yet won't give my mom anything. They're living the life. Took his wife and stepdaughter to Miami for Spring Break from Michigan yet won't give my mother a penny. So please don't tell me how selfish I am. When my dad passes I'm in South America. Might be a year, might be 5. But I give my money to them. $1840 a month pension and almost half goes to my wife and mother. And my wife's income is more than twice mine. I don't give a damn about the money. But when faced with a bill of hundreds of thousands and THEY say don't worry, we'll write it off, and the home healthcare nurse says they're doing everything pro bono, you think I'm going to say no? Good you feel shame for taking the charities of others even if it is life saving, which I think you do based on the way you’re explaining this. Shows good morals. Just like the high suicide rates in middle aged white men, good morals. If I end up a dead beat like you predict I got the retirement plan laying on my desk right now.
