United Parcel Service Hiring Freeze?

The growth of our company moves in tandem with the growth and retraction of the economy, obviously. And growth is either accelerated or stalled based on the conditions of the markets we're tapped into.

One of the markets UPS is tapped into, the largest single market in fact, is Amazon.
So then, what happens when that market goes away? Retraction of growth.

UPS will work to replenish the 11% it stands to lose, and it will. But, it may take years.
In the meantime, the lose of revenue will likely result in a hiring freeze that may last for months or even years.

Yea, so what’s your point? Hiring freeze and or layoffs to bottom 5-6% of seniority? WDFD

Is there a point here?

The US economy and UPS's growth or retraction is not a straight line correlation.
UPS actually does better in recessions . Companies tend to carry less inventory when our economy is in retraction. They then order 10 pieces of a comodity rather than 10 pallets. Off th he rails and over the road into UPS's just in time system. This increases UPS's share of the profitable business to business market.

So when the vollume of dirrect to consumer residential shipments decreases, we usually see gains in the more profitable comercial sector.

By the way UPS is always hiring. Even during the great recession.

Additionally, to the point of losing 11% of our vollume to Amazon.... total 4th quarter domestic volume across all products grew nearly 9%.

Since we are seeing neerly double digit vollume growth in the US, where Amazon is competing with us, I doubt we see anything like a hiring freeze.

But, how much of the 4th quarter gains were driven by the increase in demand for next-day services supported largely by Amazon? And, how much of that is set to change as Amazon moves to sever all ties with UPS?

Amazon is even close to severing all ties to UPS. Not even close.
See Amazon thread.

Amazon will likely divert the most dense deliveries from UPS to itself, just as it did with FedEx.

Nevertheless, UPS will likely be fine as eCommerce grows overall, and many of the Amazon diverted deliveries were not very profitable for UPS in the first place, particularly as Amazon re-negotiates the rates ever lower.

Our center, which is 2 small and 1 large centers in 1 building just laid off 15 drivers (7ish%)

Has to do with time of year and possibly how active Amazon may be in your area.

Last half of January through February is always slow. Workers during this time always act like UPS management when it comes to peak... they completely forget how it was just 11-12 months ago.

Add in less drivers taking vacation during this time of year, you have larger layoffs.

Our DM drove air today. We don't have enough people most days. They're shuttling people over from Miami 3 days a week to try to help us. Granted, most of those people are morons and can barely do 50 stops (while following nav) in 8 hours, but it's help. The area I live in is expanding more every day. If the area you're in is having a hiring freeze... Move.

Well that would suck! Never have been fired or laid off. Just got hired for 22.4 along with 5 other guys a week ago at my center.
