I'm surprised you feel you can say that. You're close enough to DC to see the problems drugs have wrought on that city.

DC is a screwed up city, but the rampant drug abuse (among a lot of other things) is a symptom of it's problems, not the cause.

The safe answer is to not care whats in the box. Deliver everything by the methods and let someone else worry about it.

The problem is we live in a world ruined by drugs and a dangerous world ripe with terrorists and terrorist types.

I don't think we should be inspecting every box that we get as part of ups's security force.

I do think that we as citizens of this world do have a responsibility to report those boxes that scream drug delivery at us or those that look highly unusual or suspicious for one reason or another.
Everyone here who said we should look the other way should also not complain the next time some druggie mugs, burglarizes or carjacks them.
Don't call the cops. Take your drug induced beating and write off the loss like a champ.

I agree and that is what a "normal and reasonable person" would be expected to do. That is what I used to do. And then after seeing there was no protocol in place, to protect me, once they pulled the pkg, (or pkgs) realized I was writing my own obituary.
But here, as in many centers, they dont want the hassle, its not just us looking the other way. Its us looking the other way because we have no backup.

You have to remember one thing at UPS to survive It's only cardboard & I don't care whats in it,ITS NOT MINE>>> The temptation of some people baffles me ,is any pkge worth losing your job or worse your integrity!! It's not our call to open a quetionable pkg,just to deliver them. I have in the past refused to deliver a pkg of smokes or wine to a house were the kid said I'm 21,with no I.D..I would sheet as no adult avaiable & go back later.Thats commonsense.I wouldnt open it and drink it or smoke it,just go back when adult is there .I would deliver drugs to a house or kiddie porn also.But iI would call UPS asap & tell them from my experience over the yrs what it was & let them make the call to the Police.If a pkge was split open and saw it was kiddie porn or drugs ,I wouldn't even touch it,I would call a mgr to come right out to the rte & see it.They call the shots,not us.Always put the ball in UPS court.

But can you be specific about what makes a package scream I'm full of illegal drugs. I mean there is going to have to be some sort of stardards that each driver can use to determine which box might contain drugs or it will just be a guessing game.

Your question is a little bit of a sidebar but generally the package comes from a customer counter or ups store rather then a regular pickup account. its air . Its taped real well and the real tip off going to a vacant house or business with no inventory that is clearly a front.

I'm not asking anyone to be a hero. You definitely should not open the package. Just report the suspicious activity and let the manager or LP person take care of it.

Covers post brings up another idea. would you deliver a box coming from a porn distributer to a house with young kids in it?

Just curious where the "I could care less whats in the box" thing ends.

In any case drugs are ruining this world in so many ways and I'm shocked at the indifference shown here.

Who is going to "make" the drug for whom to prescribe at a low enough price to run the drug cartel out of business? Our Gooberment?

And who is going to figure out a reasonable symptom for someone to get a script for heroin? Crack? And the list is endless. And who is the one in authority to write the script?

The last time I hurt my back, the doc gave me a few Vicodin. In generic form, 20 pills cost me less than $10. Same deal with Percocet, Methadone, or any other synthetic opiate drug....at normal retail price they are but a minute fraction of the cost of the black-market heroin for which addicts will spend hundreds of dollars per day.

And as far as who should figure out reasonable symptoms or write prescriptions...that would be the job of a doctor. Addiction is a medical issue, not a legal one.

Short of turning our society into a police state, there is no realistic way to prevent drugs from being smuggled into this country. If a person is addicted to drugs, I would much prefer that they be given cheap, pharmaceutical-grade meds via prescription instead of breaking into my car or stealing my identity in order to feed their habit.

Exactly, if the company wanted me to think they wouldn't make me deliver the route the way some computer program set it up. Unlike the computer, I recognize the words Dead End, One Way, No Outlet, Etc. Deliver the box. Don't ask, don't tell.

I don't know how it is now but there used to be 3 or 4 companies that shipped 90% of the porn. A couple that come to mind were Apple Court and Adam and Eve. I don't recall ever seeing an "adult sig req" sticker on any porn (just drugs). It used to be when we had a driver sort a porn pkg couldn't make it 10 feet out of the trailer without some clown screaming "porn pkg coming down". I think every one had one or 2 customers on their route that were porn freaks and all the drivers knew who they were. There wasn't any "secretly ordering porn" at our center. We did have a customer come into the receiving counter one night with an open box saying he wanted to refuse it because it wasn't what he expected and it looked nothing like the ad he saw in the mag he ordered it from. It was a blow up doll.

The idiot opened the package he should have been fired. If something was sticking out of it like he said he should have Scanned it damaged and brought it back to the building and notified a SUP not open up the box.

Before you start the name calling get the facts right. Dah I never thought of that. All you are reading and hearing is what the media is saying. Some of the info floating out there is correct but most is bs. The truth will come out in the courts of the US not the courts of this web site

Are you sure? I know I'm not "Aloud" to open packages and I'm not permitted to open them either. Its an instant termination. I just deliver them and thats it. I don't care whats in them. People who care what's in the parcels are the ones that get fired.

At least that's what I have witnessed over the years

Its not the drugs, its the illegal status of and the resultant black market for the drugs that causes the problems.

Make the drugs legally available by prescription to registered addicts for a few cents a day and you will eliminate the black market by undercutting the price to the point where the smugglers and pushers can no longer make a profit.

I lost a marriage and my son lost a mother to drugs and alcohol. I very nearly lost my life to drugs and alcohol. Having spent many years on the front lines of the "war on drugs" I can tell you from personal experience that it cannot be fought and won through prohibition.

The definition of insanity is to continue the same action over and over while expecting a different result. We are beating our heads into a brick wall with our "war on drugs"...and its not the wall that is bleeding.

I think Sober is right on with this one. Eliminate the black market and it will eliminate all the crime.

It would never happen because of stigma associated with illegal drugs percieved by the general public. Its ironic, because one of the worst, most destructive, addictive drug is legal. You can buy it at any store:liquor. It causes more deaths through car accidents and health problems than all the others combined.

Not sure what the process is but people always seemed to know who the porn distributers were.

How do I know that the box came from the customer service counter or got drop off at the UPS store. So if some one tapes up there box to good it must contain drugs ??

Last time I check most of the place where you order porn ship in a plain box that you can't tell whats in it.
