I am in the process of a workers comp settlement(buyout), UPS will issue a check for half of the settlement, the other half will go into a 30yr annuity paid annually. They say if i don't accept this that they will not settle, has anyone else gone through this?

I hope You're not handling this without an attorney. I know UPS makes it sound like they are just trying to be fair, but I think most of us know, UPS has it's own version of "fair". Referrals for an attorney from UPS'ers who have been through this, might be good.

I've sorta went through it. They don't have to settle now, if they don't choose too. But they will have to settle eventually. UPS will drag it out. Bottom line, get an attorney with a good history dealing with UPS. It almost seems there are attorney's out there getting into bed with UPS. I just get that feeling, but nothing concrete. You can't deal with them. You need to get an attorney you know you can trust.

I slipped and fell down a flight of stairs in October last year. At first they said I fractured my coccyx then changed to bruised. After 45 days of treatment and I was still in extreme pain they ordered an MRI. After the MRI they referred me to an orthopedic surgeon. He confirmed there was a fracture and a bulging disk. He treated me for a few months and I was still in pain, so he referred me to pain management. Pain management gave me two steroid epidurals in my L3 - L5 and I only saw slight relief. They then did a nerve conduction test of my left hip and found zero conduction. He did x-rays and says he saw some advanced arthritis or that it might be scar tissue. So pain management ordered an MRI of my left hip and referred me to a hip specialist. the hip specialist said my hip was perfect and is now referring me back to the orthopedic surgeon. All while liberty mutual is refusing to let me get any more injections and they tried to send me back to work twice even though my lower left back and hip are killing me at all times.
I'm thinking about obtaining an attorney. Does the union have attorneys that they can refer me to? I've asked for a second opinion but liberty mutual is dragging their feet. what are my options about having my GP refer me to a specialist? Also once I return to work how long does it usually take for the settlement process to begin? I look forward to the responses. Thank you
