Working Conditions in Winter

Deranged lunatic
The building appears to be heated to a nice and breezy maximum of -2°C. Probably because any lower and you would have a higher rate of equipment/vehicle breakdowns.

Section 6. Building Heat

"Centers will be heated, where practical.

On a facility-by-facility basis, the Employer will evaluate whether additional ventilation or heat is needed for purposes of safety and health...."

And yet....

More addition to the current language.

Section 6. Building heat

"Centers will be heated, where practical."

On a facility-by-facility basis, to include temporary facilities.

People.... gloss over so many things.

Is that a concession ?

They have turbo heaters and give the preloaders jackets for loading cars out in the parking lot. But it still sucks

Who decides what’s “practical”

Your co-workers and yourself need to start reporting cold related injuries, as well as seek medical attention.
Do this and those heaters will be fixed or replaced immediately, I guarantee it.

No, they won't.

Frozen toes and ice cold rain running down the crack of your ass from loading the outside package cars are just part of it. If management cared they would have fixed this a long time ago. The entire hub can come down with pneumonia and management wouldn't care.

Better get a doghouse, loading outside would surely suck!

They absolutely would care, if it was properly documented....

....but yes, keep getting it done, and you will get more of the same.

Hope you get over your "bellyache".

If an employee or 2 went out on lost time from an injury stemmed from the cold then you would get the results you wanted. Proving the injury strictly or mostly happened due to the cold itself is another issue.

To get the heat turned up you need to be “unionized” in the battle. You have to dress for the job first and foremost. Then everyone needs to speak up to their steward about the issue, as well as management. No one is the enemy, just making sure everyone is on the same page. It’s cold and the heat should be on.

Show up in a T-shirt and gym shorts when it’s below 40 and no one is going to take you seriously.

Here the term "where practical" translates directly to :censored2: you, we don't care. It's like crossing your fingers when you tell a lie.

The open ended issue that "will be heated" describes is also another slight of hand statement.
Heated to what temp?
If it's 15°friend outside and the facility gets "heated" up to 35°friend is that "concessionary"?
Yeah. That really takes the guesswork out of it.
