UPS, King County near deal for $100M Boeing Field cargo facility, long-term lease – Puget Sound Business Journal

Courier giant United Parcel Service is in advanced talks with King County to sign a long-term lease and build a new air cargo handling and flight control facility at King County International Airport-Boeing Field, involving investments worth more than $100 million, the Business Journal has learned.

If approved by the County Council and the Atlanta-based global shipping and logistics conglomerate, the agreement will include a new 20-year airport lease, plus three five-year options that together could extend the lease another 15 years, according to interviews and documents.

“It is a very significant investment that they’re talking about. They’ve briefed us and it’s slightly north of $100 million in terms of the planned investments,” Boeing Field Director John Parrott told the Business Journal, confirming that talks are underway. UPS is “looking to establish themselves as a long-term tenant going into the future,” he said.

Shelby UPS driver goes 25 years without an accident – C and G News

It can be quite hard to imagine going 25 years without an accident on busy roads — in all kinds of weather — while driving a large commercial vehicle, but it does actually happen, and most recently it happened for a UPS employee in Shelby Township.

UPS names employees to its Circle of Honor each year to recognize those who have delivered packages for a quarter of a century without a crash.

Jeffery Mizwa, of Clinton Township, is a UPS driver at the company’s Shelby Township facility. Mizwa has been with UPS for more than 32 years. He started in 1988 part-time while going to college, then he started driving the big trucks in 1990.

Mizwa is among 1,412 drivers newly inducted into the Circle of Honor Feb. 22.

Carol Tomé on becoming CEO of UPS: ‘This was my calling’ – Saporta Report

Nearly a year ago, Carol Tomé was named as the next CEO of UPS – making her the highest-ranking woman business leader in Georgia when she started her job June 1.

As of now, Tomé is the only woman running a Fortune 500 company in Georgia. She is the first woman to run UPS in its 113-year history. And she’s the first “outsider” to be named CEO.

“It didn’t really hit me until last week, which is odd because I’ve been in the role for a while,” Tomé. Her mother, who passed away in September, would have turned 90 a couple of weeks ago. For the occasion, Tomé’s sister sent her a photo book with a picture she had never seen before.
