UPS and UnitedHealthcare CIOs on the top pandemic lesson – CIO Dive

Technological innovation was a hallmark of last year. Soft skills will continue paving the way for IT success.

Technology wins brought IT departments into the spotlight during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the most pressing takeaways for some CIOs are the soft skills learned along the way.

For Juan Perez, chief information and engineering officer at UPS, and Carissa Rollins, CIO at UnitedHealthcare Technology, collaboration and communication are the prevailing lessons learned for the future workforce.

Across the healthcare industry, there’s been “unprecedented collaboration” among providers, Rollins said during WSJ’s CIO Network Summit on Tuesday. There’s also been more compassion among both the workforce and with customers, according to Rollins. Leaders adjusted their styles to better serve employees and they likely won’t go back.

ATF searching for man who stole packages containing guns from UPS truck – WPSD

The Louisville Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a reward for information that can help identify a man accused of stealing packages that were left on the bumper of a UPS truck.

It may seem like an odd crime for the ATF to investigate, but the packages weren’t some run-of-the-mill online shopping order. They contained firearms that were to be shipped from Paducah Shooter’s Supply.

At 2 p.m. Tuesday, a USP delivery driver made a scheduled stop at the Paducah store to pick up a scheduled shipment that included two firearms. The guns were to be shipped legally to other Federal Firearms License holders. The driver placed the packages on the rear bumper of the UPS truck, accidentally forgot them there and began drive away with the packages still on the bumper, the ATF says in a news release.

Is UPS Stock A Buy Right Now? Here’s What Charts, Earnings Show – Investor’s Business Daily

United Parcel Service is the world’s largest express carrier and package delivery company, significantly bigger than archrival FedEx. UPS stock plunged due to impact from coronavirus, but then skyrocketed amid the e-commerce boom. So is UPS stock a good buy right now? Read on to find out.

Founded back in 1907, the shipping giant offers customers a wide range of supply-chain services, including freight forwarding, fulfillment, customs brokerage, returns and even financial transactions.

Size is key. UPS delivers millions of packages across the globe each day. In 2020 it delivered 24.7 million packages per day on average, up from 21.9 million the previous year. This translates to 6.3 billion packages through the year. UPS also has been investing heavily to adapt to the changing market in the face of the e-commerce revolution.

But while the e-commerce boom has boosted package shipments, UPS earnings growth is not ideal. In addition, the loss of some Amazon.com business and the weak global economy also pose notable risks.
