How UPS is preparing for vaccine shipments – Yahoo

Kate Gutmann, Chief Sales and Solutions Officer and SVP of UPS Healthcare, joined Yahoo Finance Live to discuss how UPS is preparing to handle vaccine shipments and how the company is handling holiday shipments.

Video Transcript

ADAM SHAPIRO: There’s a lot of hope, too, at UPS about the holiday rush. Because that stock, although it was essentially flat today, has been rising for all kinds of reasons. Let’s bring into the stream Kate Gutmann, chief sales and solutions officer, as well as senior vice president of UPS healthcare.

Kate, it’s good to have you here. I want to start with the thing because Christmas on the mind, but so it COVID. UPS has that incredible facility world port in Kentucky. And you have those cold storage freezers. You have that cold storage facility. It’s huge. Is that going to play a role in vaccine delivery once we get FDA approval?

KATE GUTMANN: Yes, it sure will and is right now through the testing stages. We were very involved in the clinical trial stage. But the freezer farms in our Louisville facility are ready, and we will be supporting Pfizer, maintaining that ultra low temperature, and then shipping, as well as we’ll be supplementing from that facility as well with dry ice after every vaccine package to ensure longer life at the dosing sites.

The spirit of giving is alive and well for many eastern Idahoans at this time of year, but for Paul Bingham of Blackfoot it’s especially vibrant.

Those who know Bingham will recognize him as a UPS driver. It’s a job he’s had for more than 30 years. During the holiday season, he can be seen on his time off standing outside a local business ringing a bell for the Salvation Army.

“I’m just a volunteer. I have my regular day job, but I do what I can when I have the time,” Bingham tells EastIdahoNews.com.

Bingham’s been doing it every year for the last eight years.

Lane County Gives UPS Five-Year Tax Break – Eugene Weekly

Lane County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a two-year enterprise zone property tax extension for UPS’s new $10 million packaging facility in west Eugene at the Dec. 8 meeting. The company had already received a three-year exemption. UPS said during the meeting that the tax break was crucial, but past research by Eugene Weekly, and even the San Francisco Federal Reserve, question the effectiveness of enterprise zones in job growth.

During the meeting, Commissioner Pete Sorenson said the board should consider the costs of approving such property tax exemptions in the future because of the financial impact on education revenue.

UPS’s enterprise zone will be a total of five years, but the multinational corporation pledged to donate $10,000 for five years to Lane Community College’s Diesel Technology program and a minimum of two vehicles for educational purposes.
