UPS Hiring for 2014 Holiday Season

UPS (NYSE: UPS) announced that it expects to hire between 90,000 – 95,000 seasonal employees to support the anticipated holiday surge in package deliveries that will begin in October and continue through January 2015. The company is gearing up for increased holiday delivery volume in 2014 as it prepares to play a pivotal role in helping retailers take advantage of the holiday gift-giving season. The seasonal positions as package sorters, loaders, delivery helpers and drivers have long been an entry point for permanent employment, training and career opportunity after the company re-assesses its needs following the holiday period.

UPS Expands Four North American Distribution Facilities

Moves cater to high-tech, industrial manufacturing and retail customers

UPS® (NYSE:UPS) today announced the addition of three buildings and the expansion of another in four North American locations, boosting its supply chain solutions network size by nearly 1.2 million sq. ft. Rapid growth of customers in the high-tech, industrial manufacturing and retail industries fueled the demand for new or expanded facilities in Mira Loma, California; Hebron, Kentucky; Louisville, Kentucky; and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

This marks the second time in 2014 that both the Mira Loma and Hebron campuses increased in size.

Security Guard Shoots Armed Man Outside NJ UPS – NBC New York

A retired police officer working as a security guard at a northern New Jersey UPS facility shot shot and critically wounded an armed man who was walking toward him, authorities said.

Two men armed with handguns were in a white pickup truck that pulled up to the guard’s vehicle at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Newark police said. One person got out of the pickup and approached the guard, who shot the person several times.

Man says he was fired from UPS after complaining about racial remark – WRAL

A UPS employee in Raleigh says he was fired in retaliation after admonishing his supervisor for making a racially insensitive remark.

Joshua Boyd, 22, said Friday that he had worked only three weeks at the UPS Customer Center, loading boxes onto trucks, when the encounter with his boss happened Tuesday.

He said the supervisor, who is white, immediately apologized. But Boyd said the supervisor laughed about the chokehold joke two more times to other employees.
