The key component every oppressive government forgets is human spirit and will power.
most americans are poor but many of them work for a better life
Which eventually causes their demise.
And most Americans do just fine. Far cry from the poor in developing countries.
no half of america is near poverty
this is why you voted donald trump and a black president which were highly unusual
do they forget that?
america govt is oppressive. it spies on its population. patriot act. police in minority neighbourhoods. but people dont rebel. the govt weakened the segments of american that would have rebelled via red scare and cointelpro, war on drugs

Every form of government can be oppressive. That’s why our founders had the constitution, and the bill of rights. At the end of the day, the only way a government can make you do something is with a gun barrel pointed at you and that is eventually what happens with oppressive government.
Guess we’d better form, say, a Union of Socialist Republics while we still can, eh?

The American government can’t be oppressive for sure and that’s because unfortunately we are living under crony capitalism more than regular unadulterated capitalism. With the government having your hand and everything creating problems, and then saying they have the solution, but making it worse with every new action.

Who said it was exclusive to governments? Anywhere a group of people want to take someone’s choices and liberty away from them can be oppressive. I’m not banging the drum for capitalism. It has flaws, but it is by far the best system to allow people to flourish. Every other system says people are groups and subjects. They are not individuals.

And you buy it, while singing his praises, while never realizing he’s simply a capitalist capitalizing on his writing skills, turning them into wealth and fortune, while you become poorer. Chris Hedges is the person in the Bible talks about with a plank in his eye.
