The August PCE YOY was at 3.5 %. Which tells you that the Fed is determined to reach it's 2% goal even if it has to grind the economy down to recession level.

Then why pass an "Inflation Reduction Act" when they knew good and well that spending all that extra money is inflationary? Thank goodness Manchin refused to go along with the much bigger spending bill.
Sorry for your Dad's loss. My Father-in-Law is similar. Bizarre, 3 times a week Church of Christ goer/believer. Was a Wonder bread delivery guy. So, he was a hard worker with weird hours. Was in the Army(Korea)(fought communists). Poor etc. An average American. Yet.....yella dog Democrat until his death(probably soon). Blamed the GOP for east Texas steel mills closing. Blames GOP for everything and anything. And has become even far left and communistic/socialist in his last years. Everything is Trump's fault. He is so extreme in his politics, isolated himself from the family(whole). Angry and bitter for Democrats losing power in Texas. Has no idea about gun(he has them) control or trannies or just acts like it isn't happening and is somehow GOP's fault. Would walk through a USA slum and conclude the GOP put these folks in that situation for racism, bigotry and whatever the Dem talking point is on MSNBC. He told me soon after I married his Daughter.......that he was disappointed(in me) that I wouldn't be leading my family through the Church of Christ.......we haven't really spoken since. 33 years. That the Democrat party is for the little guy.........if I told him the first thing the Democrat communists would do......is eliminate religion........his head would explode.
Wow that sounds familiar. My dad and his friend are/were retired Church of Christ ministers. I remember my dad reading a book by Bill Clinton about twenty years ago and saying he thought Clinton was a pretty good fellow who had been treated unfairly. But he saw what Obama was attempting to do and it turned him off. But not his friend Victor.
In regard to your constant hand wringing regarding what you see as government overspending, we'll see what happens 45 days from now. The current 45 day bill makes cuts in funding for rural utilities , healthcare, agriculture and food safety programs and aid to Ukraine. Putin has to be smiling.
We'll see in the next round of budget talks just how much in the way of a willingness on the part of the MAGA's to accept the complete loss of major benefit programs they use and take for granted.

I'm far too blunt and free thinking to be a politician. Example: Safety meetings......nuff said. Union meetings....nuff said. Those are two organizations that do not accept opposing views or even solutions. You see that sort of obtuse thinking right here on BC.
Example: try to make any change at UPS/Union........the red tape and even just the pure hatred of mgt for hourlies prevents much of anything changing.
Example: We moved into a new development with a common pool area. HOA. Went to the first HOA meeting. After a day at the pool. The pool: complete chaos.....kids swinging from the shower chains, kids riding bicycles inside the pool deck and into the water. Absolutely no oversight. I was a public pool lifeguard in my youth. This was a wildly stupid idea of self-regulation. I voiced my concern at the meeting.......Me: "We need at least a lifeguard with authority...." Them: " No way. Way too expensive...." I asked "what happens if someone drowns?".........silence. This pool had any kid that stayed home and could physically get to the pool. Kids/folks that didn't even live there. See?
What happened? Very soon after, a security guard was hired (not life saving trained)(too much liability)(if your kid drowned...oh well)....after thousands of dollars damage occurred. I suggested the pool be closed and permanently filled in.... We never went back to the pool and thankfully moved away.

Paul Ryan's plan to "save" Medicare was completely undoable because no insurance company was willing to write a health insurance contract for 65 and older individuals for the $650 stipend Ryan's plan provided. Just like "repeal and replace" was a lie so was his so called "save" Medicare" plan.
Helps to explain why you don't hear anything out of Paul Ryan these days. His plan was a scam, he got caught in it and it finished him politically.
BTW, McCarthy had to depend on the Democrats just to get his 45 day plan over to the Senate. We'll see what he has in store 45 days from now if he's still speaker.
Under current rules in order to formulate a complete federal budget 12 separate appropriations bills have to pass both houses of Congress along with the fact that 70% of total federal spending is mandated by law.
So you want to cut federal spending do you? Ok. you tell me....where do you want to start and can you do it without passing even more unfunded mandates down to the states?
You can spend on all those items without overspending. The problem is you Democrats want to overspend because that's where the skimming and graft happen. Waste, abuse, and fraud is alive and well in Washington.

Cut Federal spending? It depends.......a good start would be to flush out all illegals and send them home. With penalties and such and perhaps a repayment of their expenses and ongoing offspring expenses etc. Explore citizenship loss of anchor babies etc.
Welfare means testing....nuff said.

Global aid. Nuff said. This includes global defense. Trump was right....make em pay their share.

He was finished politically because no one but him and a few others were willing to address the absolute need to cut Federal spending. We're getting with the rise in interest rates close to a trillion a year in interest just to service the debt. That's money that could have been spent on a lot of things but because of the huge run up in debt we're getting ever closer to the government collapsing under its own weight. Your solution? Spend, spend, spend then spend some more!
The problem with your economics....no limit. No penalty. No consequences. This sort of thinking dominates and festers in blue states and cities. No limits. You are liberal. Spending and confiscating other folks money at the point of a gun. This is settled doctrine and history. This is communist/socialist/liberal/Democrat religion.
