Medicaid accounts for the largest amount of federal funding dollars going to the states, and is federally mandated.

So, states that are running a federally mandated program should be criticized because they receive federal dollars?

Give me a break.
Try this one on for e size. Florida does NOT participate in the expanded Medicaid program. So when a person walks into a Florida hospital needing emergency life saving surgery but has no insurance who ends up paying for it? It more often than not comes from the hospital's charity fund account with funds obtained from surcharges applied to services billed to patients with insurance including those whose premiums are self paid,

Remember what I said 19% of Florida's total state budget is supported with federal dollars. So if you want cuts to federal spending the loss will have to be made up with new sources of state revenue or reductions in public services with the pain felt by everyone.

There is no better example of bacha logic.

Certainly not criticized, but state policy ultimately determines the amount of federal spending on Medicaid within any given state - the federal government does contribute more than the state in FL.

Looking at total Medicaid enrollment per state California has almost 4 times as many on Medicaid as Florida. And, in spite of Florida now having the 3rd largest population, New York, 4th in population, has millions more Medicaid enrollees. If y'all are going to run down red states you should familiarize yourself with the facts. New Mexico, a blue state, has the highest percentage of any state on Medicaid.

Van,

I know your whole worldview revolves around “good guys vs bad guys” binary garbage (probably raised that way, so it’s not necessarily your fault), but I was merely bringing attention to the fact that individual states set the qualifications for Medicaid, which ultimately determines how much federal funding is received.

If you choose to respond to my posts in the future, please take into consideration that I have ZERO interest in discussing which half of the two-party system is more responsible for the state the country is in.

Meat,

If you're going to comment on an ongoing discussion then you must take into account the context and the intent by one Bacha to take shots at conservative states. I realize your worldview is tainted by the "it's all about me" attitude of your generation, but I assure you it's not all about you.

If you choose to add your usual snark in response to my posts in the future, please take into consideration that I enjoy showing liberals the error of their ways. It gives me great comfort in my old age.

California participates in the EXPANDED Medicaid program. In Florida the people who have health insurance either through their employer or through self paid premiums have to pay for the treatment of those who have no insurance, You guys preach the evils of socialism....well here's a prime example of it. You get the same healthcare whether you pay your fair share or not because the guy who has insurance pays for his care and yours too. It sure as hell is socialism no matter how you try to deny it.

California has indeed "expanded" it's taxpayer funded health insurance to illegal immigrants.

You seem to have admiration for all things California. You should sell out, pack up, and move here. After a year, I would be very interested to see the look on your face as you attempt to scrounge enough resources to move back to yer holler.

Even with California's larger population the numbers on Medicaid are ridiculously high. And that's the tip of the iceberg. They're constantly dreaming up ways to spend more. Read yesterday that California is attempting to charge an exit tax on businesses looking to leave the state. You can't seem to grasp that if you make it more and more difficult for businesses to stay profitable you'll eventually drive them out. New York has a smaller population than Florida yet its state budget is twice the size of Florida's. Yet New York is the state losing its tax base and many of those relocating are heading to Florida. When you lose enough of them and the budget is dependent on the dependent guess what? It implodes. Don't be too shocked if Biden bails out California this year before leaving office.

California has the world's fifth largest economy. So tell me, if a person experiences a medical emergency one that requires immediate and expensive emergency surgery, has no insurance claims to have no cash to pay for the entire cost themselves what right do they have to still demand that life saving surgery? Should they not be reminded that healthcare is something everyone needs at one time or another and that it's not the hospital's fault that the individual didn't prepare for this very common life experience?

Why should that guy who strokes a check to pay his own insurance premiums or has it deducted from his paycheck have to pay for his own coverage and for the other guy who has no insurance?

You're missing the big picture yet again. Your big blue states are imploding from their socialist ways. People and businesses are voting with their feet. It's one thing to have emergency services, quite another to create a dependent class looking for handouts from a too generous system. It's not sustainable. The U.S. is now incurring a trillion dollars in new debt every 100 days. All your screeching about where do we cut won't mean much when it all collapses. Not a matter of if but when.
