Has TDU head David Levin ever been a rank-and-file Teamster?

The IBT folks were to complacent for to long. It was bound to happen
Oh there was no doubt that, but TDU has been around since at least the 70s maybe longer I’m not certain.

I don’t quite understand getting involved in a splinter organization and not involved in your own local first if you’re going to do something like that. In case people didn’t notice the Teamsters union is pretty democratic already compared to many unions.

They may have been around that early but they were pretty quiet until the 90's or so.

Founded:1976
Type:Union Advocacy

According to the World Socialist Web Site, a leading radical-left media resource, the founding members of the TDU were members of an organization called the International Socialists, which infiltrated the Teamsters Union in the 1960s and 1970s. The International Socialists organized on university campuses, including the University of California at Berkeley, where TDU founding member and current caucus president Kenneth Paff was a student.

No chance of them getting anywhere as long as Hoffa Senior was still around.

Union politics in the 90’s was damn ugly even when Carey got in. Most of the panels were Hoffa supporters, once they found out you were reading the TDU pamphlets or a became a member you automatically would lose your grievance.

In my over 45 years as a Teamster the only General President that ever returned a written response to a rank and file member was Ron Carey. After he was ousted you would nothing in writing from the International or was it just me?

The Democrat has shown up to multiple strike lines to personally cook for members on the line. Doesn't just show up for some fake photo op like the others. Have yet to have a republican show up and cook. ;)

Because democrats support cause the unions agree with. It's really that simple. Target selling "woke" kids books isn't a huge concern for organized labor. Desantis passing a bill for the sole purpose of attacking unions is a major concern. Why would DRIVE donate to a republican that is pushing a union busting bill?

Just look what's going on with Starbucks. The Democrats are supporting the Labor Union. And the Republicans have sided with the corporation. And is weird because not too long ago Republicans were boycotting Starbucks because of some, "War on Christmas." But now that their is a union push they are rallying with the corporation and against labor.

In 2012 a Republican controlled government passed RTW in Michigan. And in 2023 Democrats repealed the law. As soon as the Democrats got control of the Michigan state government they repealed RTW. There's a very clear reason why the Teamsters endorsed Gretchen Whitmer and not Tudor Dixon.

If Republicans start supporting union friendly causes then the unions would donate to them more.
Not defending the republicans, but the democrats supported vaccine mandates and forced masking during covid, 2 very anti-workers rights positions.

In other words, the Teamsters, whose legal obligation is to protect the jobs of its members, we’re giving money to Democrats, who wanted companies to be able to fire workers (teamsters) for not getting a shot and not wearing a mask.

Insanity.

I couldn't find the exact D.R.I.V.E. numbers but here are some Teamster political donations for 2022.

It tends to look kind of one sided to me?
Not sure of that internet source, but know what I have read elsewhere.

Popped up instantly on a Google search.

.....but it makes me wonder how much UPS paid in PAC contributions and how much they and other companies paid to fund the source you linked?
