Income Inequality

basically the top people get to write everything off because they have more loses and more businesses venture. anyone on this board would do the same. the poor pay no taxes because they don't make enough. there is no filter to the top for the one percent. the filter is the people on both sides dems and republicans who write the tax codes that they use.
read the book.

it sounds like the superrich pay lower taxes than other groups because they influence the tax loopholes with their money.

of course they get tax write offs. however it only affects the middle class. a 15 percent tax on a super rich person is nothing, 15 percent on a poor person is nothing. then you have your elected officials deciding where that money goes. here is the thing though, if you become rich you want the same tax breaks. not to mention the rich pay most of the taxes now.

their taxes aren't too low, it is what happens to that money. the government is insufficient in using it.
That's simply untrue.

It's very simple. The American public has decided it wants certain things and done so by voting in elected officials. In order to have such things, taxes are levied.

Now if the cost of these goods and services are higher than the taxes levied, we operate at a with debt. We've had such debt since Bill Clinton left office. (Being nonpartisan on the subject, the Clinton years and numbers were grossly overstated by the "tech bubble" and obviously not sustainable.)

we have record tax revenue coming in and we're still running deficits. it isnt the fact we aren't getting enough taxes. the government is wasteful and inefficient.

No. We want but don't want to pay for it. "Waste,, fraud, and abuse" comes nowhere close to knocking out the deficit.

I would be interested in knowing your source for that idea though. Sounds more like an oft repeated talking point that people have simply decided to believe.

it really isn't a Republican or democrat issue both parties have their issues with spending tax money

So you are suggesting that there is at least $600,000,000,000 worth of "waste, fraud, and abuse" every year in the U.S federal government?

Think about that number. Two and a half years of that would cover 10 years of Obamacare. Are you sure that's what's going on? Or is the WFA number thrown around by both sides in the political arena?

I mean, really. Every administration since Reagan has touted WFA to no real reduction. Maybe one man's WFA is another man's SS check. Maybe one man's WFA is another man's bridge building contract. Sure, where it exists, it should be eradicated. But it $600,000,000,000 per year? Somebody is fudging numbers.

truth is no one really knows how much waste there is. we don't know everything the government is involved in. that also isn't just waste either. it's efficiency to that creates savings.

Well, if we don't know how much there is (and I agree) then it's ridiculous to suggest that's where balancing the budget should take place.

2014 numbers estimated $125,000,000,000.

http://www.nationalreview.com

Going back to your numbers of bringing in $3.9 trillion and spending $4.5 trillion and eliminating WFA to the tune of $125 billion, still leaves a staggering deficit of $475 billion. That nearly half a trillion dollars. So the idea that we are taxed enough falls flat and the tough decisions on cutting spending and raising taxes need to be taken seriously.
