Locker Room/ Rest Rooms

For Discussion:

Walking through a facility I had to use the restroom so I was walking through a locker room to get to the area with the urinals and I was a bit surprised at what I saw.

Some drivers were getting ready and several of them had their locker doors wide open and I was troubled by what I couldn't help but notice on their locker doors.

There were varying degrees of obscene pictures hanging on their open locker doors in plain view of anyone who might be using the restroom at that particular moment, such as myself.

This I would say is probably a practice that should be banned. I know I'll probably get a bit of heat for this but the fact that these locker rooms are not really private places and I think the company should error on the side of caution.

I was not super shocked but I think depending on what is hanging, there could be someone who may be seriously offended by having to be exposed to something like this.

are you just pissed because it wasnt gay porn? did you get upset because their wasnt a tampon dispenser? or did you just feel really small when standing in front of the urinal?.....sorry didnt take my meds again!

Mind your own business. I'm constantly annoyed by your posts yet I acknowledge you are operating within the guidelines of this forum. These drivers didn't ask what you thought of the decorating they did to thier lockers.

Captain underpants, you're a guy (using that term loosely lol)...why are you offended by obscene pictures of women...unless you are in them?? If they were displayed in a public place where female employees could see them, I could see your objection. Even then, as a female loader, I've never said a word if a driver leaves a playboy in his truck...what's so offensive about it?? Here's a tampon, get over it lol.

We have a supervisor that put a couple of wooden shelves in his locker to store his porn collection, looks like a library. I wonder exactly what it is that they do when drivers leave the building.

I personally think its rather tacky to hang porn pictures in your locker, but if someone else wants to do it then it really isnt any of my business and a brief glimpse of a pair of boobies isnt going to harm me or affect my own moral compass in any way. The locker room is an area that is designated for employee use only. Therefore, there is approximately zero chance that a customer would see anything in it and have it affect their opinion of UPS or its employees.

If an employee going to take a piss feels insulted, reviled, or threatened by something they see in another's locker, they should approach their supervisor or manager about that specific instance.

​Obscenity is a qualitative property, so there's no way to write an effective policy that bans "obscene images." The only way you're going to get a building (company?) wide policy implemented is to ban all personal images from being posted in lockers, and we all know that'll never fly, cause the managers love for everyone to brag about how they bust their ass for UPS so their kids and families can have a wonderful life.

It is wrong to expose another to something that could be offensive or inappropriate in the workplace. What others do at home is their own business. Let their conscience be their guide there, if they have one.

A restroom open to employees is not private and it is wrong to expose anyone to inappropriate pictures.

It doesn't bother me that much, but it is wrong and in light of the situation this practice should be banned.

I know your background so let me pose an unlikely but possible scenario;

Let's suppose a person in recovery from a sexual addition just happens into one of these locker rooms and right in front of him he sees some graphic pornography staring at him in plain view from a locker that is open while a driver is changing.

Let's further suppose that this one look (using the first drink theory) sets him into relapse that in the future leads him down a road that he never would have gone had he not relapsed.

The company has to error on the side of caution.
