It's been 60 years and the private sector hasn't fixed it. Any reason to believe they'd fix it now?
You need to travel outside of the U.S. Countries that have tried socialism do not enjoy our standard of living. There will never be a perfect economy but captailism creates the highest standard of living in the world. Sure its messy but the market works. The freest markets have the highest standard of living. China is enbracing free markets as fast as it can. What is the private sector suppose to fix? Ifts up to you to fix your life not goverment. Look, govt. screws up everything it touches. goverment housing, goverment education, social security, tarp, freddie mac, fannie mae,

Republicans, the party of labor. Uh, no. It always amazes me how the very people the Republicans like to keep under "control" (like UPS drivers) will actually vote for someone who is going to do their level best to screw them. It's kind of like a black person voting for George Wallace or David Duke...not in your best interests.

After Obama Rally, Dems Pin Blame On Bush

January 17, 2010 6:16 PM

By Felicia Sonmez

As audience members streamed out of Pres. Obama's rally on behalf of AG Martha Coakley (D) here tonight, the consensus was that the fault for Coakley's now-floundering MA SEN bid lies with one person -- George W. Bush.

Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), speaking with a gaggle of reporters after the event, said that while state Sen. Scott Brown (R) offers voters a quick fix, in reality, the problems created by "George Bush and his cronies" are not so easily solved.
"If you think there's magic out there and things can be turned around overnight, then you would vote for someone who could promise you that, like Scott Brown," Kennedy said. "If you don't, if you know that it takes eight years for George Bush and his cronies to put our country into this hole ... then you know we have a lot of digging to do, but some work needs to be done and this president's in the process of doing it and we need to get Marcia Coakley to help him to do that."
(Curiously, Kennedy mentioned Coakley repeatedly during his remarks to reporters, each time referring to her as "Marcia," not "Martha.")
More Kennedy: "One thing the Democrats have done wrong? We haven't kept the focus on this disaster on the Republicans who brought it upon us. We've tried too hard to do that right thing, and that's to fix it, as opposed to spend more of our time and energy pointing the finger at who got us [here] in the first place."

Must make everyone from RI very proud, this is what you elected.

more taxes on the really wealthy......

lets see, if you take the 400 most wealthy, confiscate every dime (of course it would be much less, because if you take that wealth, it would have to be converted to cash, which would drive prices for their holdings into the crapper).

then take the people that we are trying to help get insurance. it would be about 25 grand per person. how much do you think that would help? and for how long?

at what the average person pays for their insurance, that would give them coverage for less than 3 years.

the top 5% of the wealthiest people pay 55% of the taxes collected already. you increase that, that money will come out of the economy, and take 7-20 times that out of the public sector.

in other words, increase their taxes by 1 trillion dollars, and you instantly remove 7-20 trillion out of the private sector spending. thats a lot of lost jobs, which means more people out there that will need more tax money raised to provide services. it will become a vicious cycle to which there is no end.

Those programs are going to scrap themselves when they go bankrupt in 2017. Is that what you call a government program success story?
I will bet noone, Republican or Democrat will ever let that happen. Did I mention the 14 trillion dollar a year economy that they have to play with?

Don't believe everything you think
I voted for brown, during my lunch hour. There was a couple that drove from South Carolina in their "pickup truck" ,holding Scott Brown signs at my polling station.

Did I mention that when you throw Social Security in the mix you have over $53 trillion in unfunded liabilities? BTW, that was a figure that comes from 2008, and I believe it has gone up since but I don't have those numbers immediatly available. Where do you think this money is going to come from?

bbsam, thats the problem. Elected office was meant to be a short term effort like community service. Do it for a bit, then go back to your life. If the mood strikes, do it again later when you have more time. Career politicians of both stripes are the real problem. If there were term limits on all offices, poiticians would be more free to do the right thing for the people, not the right thing for reelction.

Union members stick together and vote for the "Party Of No." Boy do they have a plan to fix the runaway cost of healthcare - DO NOTHING and it will fix itself! hahaha- what a bunch of DOPES! Boehner, Cantor, McConnell and BROWN should give up their Cadillac health plans and try to live off the dole! ANY UNION member who would vote REPUBLICAN should be lined up - identified and thrown out of our Union - YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF A UNION!!!! True Americans show compassion for those less fortunate like the poor people of Haiti! Stop looking out for yourself or you will find out the true cost of run away healthcare!! Next contract we are the BIG TARGET for UPS - not MGT!! If we do not send a msg to BIG INSURANCE now we will be very sorry later!! At least the DEMS and Obama are trying - Bush nor McCain could care less about us - the little folk! nuf said

Use your own mind! Stop blindly following your union leaders. Most UPS drivers I've talked to are voting REPUBLICAN.
