In my local, if they approve it and they then ask you to work, you're entitled to time and a half for all day

8 days I believe. I wouldn't talk anymore about it unless he brings it up. I would say oh I won't be here I have an option day.

Here in the Central, it is 8 days in advance. Request must be on paper, time stamped, and UPS must approve or deny within 24 hours. This way you know a week in advance that you got your day so you are not waiting until the last moment to find out if you got it. Easier to make plans.
