The problem is.... most children don't want to go to school and learn. They'd rather play xbox. I would have much rather played my atari or NES all day.... my parents made that impossible. So what about kids who don't have that influence? They grow up to be parents that don't give that influence.
I'd like to take all the credit for my work ethic, but it's all from my parents. What about the kids who don't have that taught to them.... we gotta break the cycle some way. How about we double the amount of teachers in this country, and for every teacher in a Title I school, we hire a social worker to help these kids AND their parents. It might not work right away but we gotta try something.
Totally agree. With most everything. I know some wonderful teachers, but if you dont have the parents driving their children, there you hit a brick wall. Even in the 70-90s when I was raising children, there were people who didnt care enough to show up, for parent teacher meetings. To see what their kids were doing/learning. There is the rub. It was always an exciting night for us. A day off school, Pizza Hut, free pizza for all the books they read, etc. It was important, now, more than then, that is important.
I cringe when I deliver home schooling materials. IMO racist/ poor people hating opinion, some of them do this to their children, just so they dont have to get them up, and ready for school.
Home schooling is a great new venue, but if you are in your pajamas with a beer in one hand and a joint in the other at 3pm, you probably shouldn t be home schooling. But at least you will have free internet. Then 6 mths later, I try to retrieve the stuff, and its all in a heap on the sidewalk with the rest of the stuff. Yes your tax dollars at work.
