A behind-the-scenes look at UPS’ driver training boot camp – New York Post

Forget military boot camp. Prepping for the busy holiday season is so much more intense!

UPS is bracing for the shopping craziness this year by assembling the soldiers — delivery drivers. The global shipping company has created a boot camp to train drivers to get them ready to deliver Santa’s gifts.

CNBC’s Frank Holland visited the Midtown UPS delivery center on Thursday, which is one of the busiest in the country, and over 600 trucks were about to hit the road to start distributing holiday packages and presents.

“The women and men you see in the brown trucks on the road, are literally the driving force for [UPS] to deliver millions of packages and generate billions in profit this holiday season,” he said.

Electrify UPS: New campaign calls on global shipping company to transition to electric delivery trucks – Environment America

Environment America Research & Policy Center launched a new campaign Thursday calling on the United Parcel Service (UPS) to purchase all electric vehicles for their delivery fleet of 125,000 vehicles by 2030.

“Delivering packages to our doorsteps shouldn’t come with the unhealthy add-on of air pollution and a warmer climate,” said Wendy Wendlandt, president of Environment America Research & Policy Center. “As the world’s largest courier, UPS has a responsibility and opportunity to lead the shipping industry to an electric future with zero-emission trucks.”

Transportation, including the iconic brown UPS trucks, is the leading source of global warming pollution in the United States. Shipping companies like UPS operate fleets of largely diesel-powered trucks that drive in our neighborhoods and near our homes every day. The delivery trucks and tractor trailers that deliver consumer goods are also responsible for nearly half of smog-causing nitrogen oxide emissions and nearly 60% of the fine particulate matter from all vehicles.

Delivering happiness to hospitalized children – UPS

UPS and Message of Hope Foundation team up to lift spirits – more help is needed

What’s the story: Happy Hope Bags – and a team of UPSers – bring joy to nearly 100,000 hospitalized children a year.

How it started: As a child, Message of Hope’s founder Emi Burke saw how illnesses were affecting kids while making hospital rounds with her pediatrician father.

More than 26 years later, she decided to start the foundation in the basement of her Massachusetts home, prompted by her son and the desire to provide sick kids with a much-needed lift.
“Finding out our youngest son was profoundly disabled, visually impaired and unable to speak, led me back to my purpose,” Emi said.

She developed Happy Hope Bags, which contain items such as crayons, coloring books and stuffed animals.

How UPS is involved: The customer uses UPS to ship the final product from the Message of Hope facility to hospitals. In addition, Ian Dalpe, UPS area sales manager, noticed the organization needed extra help to fulfill its mission, and is part of a team of UPSers who volunteer to pack the bags.
