She is more a traditional Democrat instead of a far left socialist. If the Democrats keep trying to push everything farther and farther to the left they can kiss the election goodbye. Gabbard doesn't fit the current wave of socialism so has no chance to win the nomination but she still has value to pull in more moderate voters. VP slot is usually a tool to widen support so she has value there.
