The problem with your logic is the poor kid from Florida would have been drafted anyways. The kid denied a chance at Harvard would have most likely had to settle for a lesser school.
It's common knowledge, widely reported. Asian kids have even brought a lawsuit because they were being denied in favor of other minorities with much lower SAT's. How would you feel if you worked extremely hard to get into an elite school that would just about guarantee financial success, but were denied in the name of diversity? Oh, wait, you believe everything should be handed to you, not because of your merit.
