We use air drivers occasionally to do pickups when we get slammed. But everyday? Heck no. Our DM would be on us like white on rice.

They sometimes have air drivers close out large p/u accts. It sounds like the reg. driver is only doing an initial instead of waiting around to get all the ground.

I'm having enough fun with OP. I don't think it's fair a guy worries about having a job when he gets back from vacation. He should be home enjoying it.

That right there should get you top driver pay unless all you pick up are Air packages.
