Are you proud? Not necessarily proud for being a upser...
But proud of the hard work?
The long hours?
Your dedication?
Starting out working at 4am?
Starting out loading and unloading packages?

I have been in business for 18 years. I do a lot of hard work and have had many employees come and go. I have a lot of friends and family. I know, most of them would not be able to put up with the work and conditions that all of you have done over the years. You must be proud. :thumbup1::thumbup1:

i would have to say i'm proud. i loaded trucks for 9 years, until 2 months ago when i moved to small sort. i was proud of my loads, and so were my drivers. they hated to see me go, but i had to make the change, because my body was telling me to do so. preloading is a very tough job, as is most jobs at ups.:thumbup1:

Im very proud to work for UPS and my work. My feelings about the company are just like the relationship I had with my syblings when I was younger. We'd fight each other, talk crap about each other etc etc etc..But the moment someone else tried to talk about one of us, we were ready to go to war with that person.

People always talk about how hard we work. They know it takes alot to work here. Especially all of you folks out there driving and doing the inside jobs.

I don't know. I used to defend UPS all the time, but now, I just kinda step back and let it flow. Retirement is closer now and maybe that is a factor. But I really think it's that the UPS I started working for in the 70's is not the UPS I work for now. And I understand that one must change with the times. It's just not the same company now. Those with 15 or so less years in seniority won't know what I am talking about. I like working for UPS, it's a good job (minus the broken down body parts after so many years), but I just don't have the same pride I used to. Boo hoo, boo hoo,

For thae 28 years I worked at UPS, I was proud of my accomplishments and work ethic.

I will say and I think others agree, when you say you work for UPS, most people are impressed that you work for an organization that has the respect of the business world.

There have been many changes and challenges over the years, due to business needs of our customers and the organization.

I was once asked what I thought was the strong suit of UPS to keep being successful. My response was all the planning, analyzing, improving processes, technology, and cost. Along with the work ethic of UPS employees, both management and non management.

I had 3 other jobs prior to UPS and never intended to make a career at UPS. Just wanted some part time work until I found something better. Once I started as a off the street driver, and liked what I saw, I decided to stay.

UPS is a wonderful organization and we have choices in life, and we choose to work at UPS for whatever reason.

I'm actually embarassed that I'm a UPS driver and for only one reason. When I'm out on the weekends and meet any good-looking woman, the conversation tends to go south when she discovers I'm a UPS driver.

Other than that, I wouldn't work anywhere else simply because I can't for the same pay and I graduated from college.

When I tell someone I am a driver for UPS, and they say how hard I must have to work or that I have to swallow a whole bunch of smile*, I am proud.

When I knock at someone's door at 8:45 at night and they are frightened because they think that I am not a delivery driver but some kind of thug ready to burglarize there house, or when I open my back door at my first stop and then have to talk the people out of calling OSHA to report my poor load, I am not proud.

When I tell people I work for UPS the response I get most often is "what's that?" This is due to the incredible lack of UPS advertising here in Canada. But that is a rant for another thread.

I guess I would say I am proud since I don't hesitate to tell people what I do if they ask. I would say though that I am more proud to be a driver than I was to be a Preloader. It's something to be able to say your are one of the priveleged few that drive for UPS, one of the most recognized brands in the world. Especially for me to be able to work for a company that will pay me $75k/year and I don't have/need a degree to be a Package Relocation Specialist.

I am proud of what the drivers and part time employees can accomplish for our customers with the daily harassment, following, the constant reminders that we arent going fast enough from SOME of the management here at ups. Think about it, its really amazing that the employees of this company can be treated so badly at times and can have such good attitudes towards our customers. I am proud that I work safe and stay as productive as I do with all of the million of things that can go wrong in a day. I am proud of some of the management here that actually try to make this company a decent place to work. Nobody is asking this to be a super wonderful job, I really dont think that kind of job exists, but nobody should come to work on a daily basis worried about being fired, which I have seen happen to many above average people here at ups....its not right, and a really pathetic way to run such a "publically" watched company.

I am proud of the different things that ups does for our customers, you know, trying to find and reroute that one package in 15 million...thats pretty amazing in itself.....try to have the post office do that! Although it seems that some of our customers have been having more problems with ups now than they did, say 10 or 15 years ago, I think we still are doing a better job than the competition. I am proud that we have been holding off the competition as well as we have....I would like to thank the drivers and some management for that...now maybe the people a few steps up on the ladder will start understanding that the drivers are a large part of that and start treating people with a little respect. We are all coworkers.....changing this counterproductive attitude that seems to be so strong at ups should be first on the list of must do's.

I am proud of all the charity work ups does, with united way, and especially the ups foundation and the annie e casey foundation. This is one area where this company really shines, and I truely appreciate the employees who give their time and money for others.

I'm proud when I'm tooling down the H'way and people just seem to get out of the way of Big brown when I'm barreling down the Interstate and my doubles are swaying like a Highrise Bldg in a Earthquake. It's just annoying when the public flick their brights on me, for God's sakes, just pass me without blinding me......And then Independent Truckers radio me "Buster Brown" why do you drive so slow"......and my response is "the longer it takes, the more I make"!

Chan whan i started in the early 90s, i must have had 5 or 6 ftime jobs, and every time i looked for a job all i had to say is that i am currently employeed at ups, the interview process would end and i was always offered the job right then. However times have changed huge, now most of our new p-timers dont have any work ethic and that now turns into friend-timers with no work ethic. Like many here we worked 2 and 3 jobs to pay the bills with little or no sleep to support our family and in doing so it made us all better people in general let alone great employees and taught us respect in life. I only hope that things turn around soon or we are in serious trouble because what i described above has helped to give this company the reputation it has today but it is slipping fast!

I am proud to work at ups but over the last 2 years or so its getting harder to look the customers in the face and explain why i cant del/pu to them at the time they would like because we have a couple routes busted to save on our bottom line and show no regard for the customers business. I understand that we discount the big shippers qvc, amazon, walgreens etc to the point where we dont make alot of revenue off of them but we treat the ma and pa shippers who pay full rate like we dont care about them and they are our biggest source of bottom line, mike i hope you and the board are reading this!

Yeah, the work ethic is something to be proud of. I forget how hard the job is because you do it every day and it becomes kinda routine until you take vacation and come back to it and you die the first couple of days. (Like is that a run on sentence?) I could never sit at a desk all day. And no one can deny that if you work for UPS you work hard. Those that don't, whine all day. I am an old fashioned midwestener who was born with the work ethic and UPS fits that mold.

I think I would have to say I am still proud.
Im especially proud when someone says " I never knew that women could get hired there". I want to say, "crawl out of your cave" but I dont.
I know my Dad was so proud of me. He had a driver that delivered his medicine, and would chat with him, and put up with all his little ankle biters. His name was Sarge, out of ERie PA. He was a great guy from what I was told, My Dad just adored him. Those are the kind of drivers I like to think we still have. The ones who wait when they know someone takes forever to get to the door, and lived with the overallow because of it. Those people depend on us as much as the fortune 500's. I know we dont have the time to, but sometimes we just have to.
And Sarge always told him, how hard the job was, especially for a woman. And my Dad would tell him, shes a strong little girl, and I wanted her to keep her part time job but she wanted to be a driver, and she seems to like it.
And he would brag to everyone, sometimes ad nauseum, but it probably made him prouder than me. To him "I had made it" to the top.
So I think that is part of my pride that I made my dad proud.
But Im proud because we are respected. And when I see a customer at 7 at night, on area, that has a business that closed at 5, they then realize why I was 1/2 hr later than usual, and respect me for getting there when I do. And I never get no crap like the people who think I drive a 28 ft truck around all day, and the only pkg I have was theirs.
After all we are entrusted with a vehicle that fights traffic all day, and have an excellent rep. WE deal with millions of customers, angry or whatever in our work life, and never shoot anyone. Most of us manage our families with the same pride we do with our jobs, and it all turns out great. So while the big guys fight it out at the top, I keep the respect for the company in my world in tact. And blow off the bad remarks. Coz at the end of the day, or your work life, no one can take away your pride.

That's really a tough question to answer.
The best way I can answer is that I take pride in doing a job,any job, to the best of my ability.
What still amazes me is the respect of being a UPSER has earned me over the last 21yrs.
I can be shopping with my wife 80 miles from where I live and hear someone say,"That's my UPS man".
It is the word "my" that always catches my ear.
This is a very personal job.

You smell that?
I cannot lie. I love my job. I get to do exactly what I always wanted to do and get paid well for it.

Guess I'm luck. I've known since I was a little kid that all I wanted to do was drive.
