Are your wives as lonely as I am?

Hello, I know that this is a forum for UPS employees, but I was hoping that maybe there would be other UPS wives on here who might understand a thing only a UPS wife can understand.

It is peak season, and my husband has worked for UPS for the past 13 years, I have been with him for 10 years, so it isnt like this is anything new to me. He is a preloader, mainly the reason why he has kept his status as a preloader is because we both enjoy the fact that he is home all day, we can go places and do things. During peak though it is like I never see him. He comes home at 10:00 then by the time I make dinner (about 11am, another one of those weird preloader wife thing) and he gets on the computer and does what he needs to do on there, it is 3:00 and he is heading to bed because he has to get up in a few hours to get to work.

I try my best not to nag him about it, I mean he cant help it, and well, UPS pays the bills, and all that overtime is a big big help financially, but this month is supposed to be the happiest time of year, and for me it is the worst month of the year. I know it is nothing compared to what you guys go through, trust me I know, I worked for UPS for a year when hubby and I had just met, so I know what peak is like, and I dont envy you one bit.

Do any of your wives ever complain about all the hours you work? Or am I just being selfish for feeling this way about this? I don't know, maybe I am being selfish and I should be more understanding and try my best to do everything to make him happy during this month to make it easier on him.
Well, gotta go spend another 4 hours alone till he wakes up and leaves again.

Yeah its lonely! My husband is a mechanic for UPS , and we only see him about maybe on a good day in peak about 1 hr. a day.
And since I am a driver helper I don't see him that much maybe 5 minutes a day and then on Sundays.
So if your getting 4 hrs. a day then your lucky! But hey I don't complain it pays well.

thats 3 1/2 hours that you guys could be doing things together, give him a cialis after dinner and he`ll forget about the computer.

LOL, I will have to try the Cialis. I guess I just dont handle change as well as I thought I could. I think that the fact I moved away from all of my family 5 years ago so that hubby could transfer here to go to school that around the holidays I miss my family. When I look back on how I have handled it int he past, I have always hung out with my family and tried to make the best of it. I will get over it. I mean the extra shopping trips this month help a lot LOL

Amen, make that two of us, and with cialis that would be good for tomorrows 3 1/2 hrs also, correct. Dont forget what to do if that 4 hr thing happens tho. You know go to the ER for help? Aspen could probaly add to that one.

I have always thought preload was the hardest job at UPS. And the thing about peak and UPS is that you are making more money than you have all year but are too tired to spend it.
Forgive my driver bias, but why doesn't your husband want to go driving?

come on now. it is only for a few weeks that you do not get to see your husband. just think if he was a driver. you would not see him at all. also not seeing him all week makes the weekends so much better.

You think you got it bad.

My wife leaves for work at 7:15 am. I leave for school at 6:45, I don't even see her in the morning. She works until about 4:30pm. I leave for twilight shift at around 4-4:30pm. I get home around 10 most nights at which point she is getting ready for bed. I typically have homework and after I take a shower I don't get to bed until around 11:30 or midnight. Get up and repeat.

One weekend a month I am working for the Air National Guard, so i don't see her on Sat or Sunday that weekend.

I know it sucks during peak, but your husband and you have a good deal going. Him being home during 11 months of the year is pretty good. I have at least another year of school. Since we've been married, about 2.5 years, I have been gone overseas for about 8 months of that and been going to school ever since. I'm not complaining, just sayin ;)

Good luck with peak ;)

That is too funny DS and toonertoo we talked about this in the chat one night. I bet DL can get us some cheap pills if we ask him! But yes if you happen to have the 4 hour thing get thee to a Dr. Have someone drive you because you will be in a lot of pain. Otherwise one a day (takes about 30 minutes to work after you take it) and some stimulation and you are good to go. This puts a whole new meaning to "happy peak!"

To the lonely wife that started this thread. Hang in there! I know you miss your family but there must be something you can do with your time; such as come and chat with those of online.

Lonely,
It can be hard. I am "lucky" enough to have a friend that has a husband that is also a driver, so we call each other on the phone and talk, talk, talk. We both know what to expect and somehow it is easier to deal with. I also take this time of year to read all of the books that I didn't have time for the rest of the year!! My husband doesn't work till 8:30am so I'm able to see him in the morning and have a nice breakfast before he and I go off to work. Just remember, it's only about 3 weeks away from the END and all will be normal again (IF IT EVER IS NORMAL!)

Joopster - must be so hard to not see your wife. But, the schooling will pay off in the end and you'll be glad for the sacrifices. Good for you and all you're doing!

This is why I plan on NOT getting married or have anymore kids. Why would I want another kid? So I can not see that one grow up also???

I too am a lonley UPS wife. My husband works preload, and spots trailers, he has one of those combo jobs. He works 2:30am to about noon tue-fri and 6am-2:30 Sat. I work 8-5 m-friend. We get very little time together, he sleeps from 3pm to 8pm, then 10pm till time for work. So at best I see him two hours a day, and then we have Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The weekdays are really hard, We have enough time to have dinner and take care of the pets and then it's time for bed again. The biggest problem is the family members who don't understand his schedule and call while he's sleeping, or they expect us to do holiday things during the week. Luckily peak only lasts 4 weeks, but for me peak is no different from the rest of the year. It will really get bad for us when tax season starts for me. I'll work 60-80 hrs a week and we really won't see eachother then. That lasts 4 months. I can cope with one month of grouchiness from my husband, the overtime is worth it, and he's happy with his job most of the time so that is a plus.

Hang in there ladies, it will be over soon!

you guys think it's bad, wife #3 has the dirty a word: 'ambition'. she this 'feminist' type that's in law school with the 'ambition' to be a criminal defence lawyer, where she'll represent wife-beaters, wife-killers, and rapists.

she leaves the house every day at 9am to study, and sometimes she doesn't get back until 11pm! this puts additional pressure on wives 1, 2, and 4 to pick up the slack on housework. they're not happy. they were happy before wife #3 wanted a 'career' of 'her own'. now they're not. they're planning a revolt.

i don't see why she wants to have her own career, when she can just live off my avails?

LonelyUPSWife......You should consider yourself lucky that you're not married to the UPS Feeder driver Dr Trickpony. He admitted to the room in a post that when he comes home from work he drinks a pint of whiskey and beats his wife to relax. He does this year round, not only during peak. As hard as you have it with your husband's working hours, be thankful you're not married to Dr Trickpony.
