Build a mosque...

WASHINGTON (AP) - American taxpayers will pay the imam behind plans for a mosque near the Manhattan site of the Sept. 11 attacks $3,000 in fees for a three-nation outreach trip to the Middle East that will cost roughly $16,000, the State Department said Wednesday.
The department said Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf will get a daily $200 honorarium for the 15-day tour to Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, which is intended to promote religious tolerance. Airfare is included, as well as the standard federal government per diem for expenses and lodging in each of the cities he will visit, spokesman P.J. Crowley said. Those per diem rates range from nearly $400 to nearly $500, according to official documents.

It's amazing that this Iman does't get the hint that the mosque or it's followers are not welcomed. If you are true to any relligon than you would know that building this mosque is disrespectful to the brave men and women that perished on that dreadful day.But the Imam knows this and does'nt care It's not about religous freedom to him, because he just uses that as an excuse,It's about driving the final dager through the hearts of the family's of the victims. The Imam says the so called commuity center is for everyone which of course is a lie, because I want to see a jewish person walk into that mosque or a christian or a person of any other religon than Islam, because we all know the history behind these religons especially the conflicts between the arabs and the jewish faith. So this Imam in my eyes will say and do anything to achive his goal.If we let them build this mosque on or near that sacred site it's like seeing those planes fly into those buildings all over again.

I realize he's a much cheaper traveler than the first lady, but why are we paying any of it ???

Maybe I'll travel to Rome to drum up business for a new Catholic church in San Clemente....all the taxpayers can pay for my trip. They won't mind, right?

After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, would it have been OK 10 years later for Japanese to build a temple/shrine next to Pearl Harbor??? Would our govt have allowed that to happen back then?

Mosque a long shot to be built

When President Barack Obama turned the battle over a planned New York Islamic center into a national debate over religious freedom, he unwittingly allied himself and his party with an ill-planned, long-shot development project described by one of its most prominent allies as “amateur hour.”
The Cordoba Initiative hasn’t yet begun fundraising for its $100 million goal. The group’s latest fundraising report with the state attorney general’s office, from 2008, shows exactly $18,255 — not enough even for a down payment on the half of the site the group has yet to purchase.
The group also lacks even the most basic real estate essentials: no blueprint, architect, lobbyist or engineer — and now operates amid crushing negative publicity. The developers didn't line up advance support for the project from other religious leaders in the city, who could have risen to their defense with the press.

Reality TV finalist Francisco Patino steered developer to mosque site near Ground Zero

Michael Daly
As if the mosque controversy could not get any weirder, it turns out the person who found the site two blocks from Ground Zero was a teenage reality show contestant from Queens.
Not that young Francisco Patino can really be faulted.
He was just doing the bidding of a real estate developer who hired him in 2006 after chancing to see him on "American Inventor." The show happened to be on a floor-model TV while the developer was shopping at a Sharper Image in Manhattan.
"I saw him on TV and I like him," the developer, Sharif el-Gamal, said Wednesday.

So what's the big deal? No money, no mosque.

Sarah Palin was near tears Monday night on Fox News, demanding that the president use his "clout" and "pull" to "encourage" the Muslims to choose another site for their mosque. O'Reilly had similar comments. It didn't dawn on either of them that they might offer to purchase the old Burlington Coat Factory fair and square, just like the Muslims did, and use their property rights to put it to more "appropriate" use.

Democrats champion Property Rights? Republicans champion Big Gov't?

The renovation of the Maghen Abraham Synagogue in downtown Beirut is nearing completion. Artists have been putting the finishing touches on the interior of the temple sanctuary, which was constructed in 1925 in the Wadi abu-Jmil district of the city, also home to the country's parliament buildings.
Renovations on the ruined synagogue in central Beirut began in 2009 after an agreement between various religious denominations and permission from the Lebanese government, planning authorities and even Hezbollah. The project received the green light after political officials and community leaders became convinced it could show that Lebanon is an open country, tolerant of many faiths including Judaism.
