When I went to driving school in the early 90's we had a $10/day meal per diem. We were strongly encouraged to take advantage of the continental breakfast at the hotel. Yes, we were on our own dinner.

School was 2 weeks long. They would pick up the tab for dinner one night each week (usually on Wednesday) and they would feed us on Friday with a catered lunch.

Only the "special" kids got to go... They would pick them all up from the hotel in the short bus...

They actually sent two of us (hired at the same time) to two separate classes.

I still don't know why we were chosen to go but, as I said earlier, it was the best two weeks of my career.
