Congress at it again...trying to make Puerto Rico the 51st state...

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.
That was pretty clever of the Dems. Previous referendums allowed them to maintain their commonwealth status. So of course they're going to pick statehood over independence. Would love to see them shock the Dems by picking independence but highly doubt that'll happen. So this gets passed before Republicans take over and can't be reversed?
It’s gonna die in the senate

Would the PR folk vote themselves into paying Fed Income Tax?

Filibustered? We've got McConnell giving the Dems spending bill a filibuster proof majority instead of a continuing resolution until next year so will have to see if the Republicans will actually do the right thing.
It would probably need 60 votes. Not happening

They'll soon be on the level of the Dominican Republic if they go independent. So probably will go for statehood. If they go independent and are still classified as American citizens(except for newborns because Puerto Ricans are considered born American citizens) they'll be on the hook for income taxes as their commonwealth protection is gone. So might as well vote for statehood.

They won't choose independent and won't go independence with "free association,". To do so ends the US gravy train: financial aid from the U.S.
No social security, Medicare, Medicaid. The PR become a foreign country.

Easy to vote when the vote is meaningless. Let's see the vote when they are thinking big daddy will be cutting off the gravy train.
