Would love to see them shock the Dems by picking independence but highly doubt that'll happen. So this gets passed before Republicans take over and can't be reversed?

They'll soon be on the level of the Dominican Republic if they go independent. So probably will go for statehood. If they go independent and are still classified as American citizens(except for newborns because Puerto Ricans are considered born American citizens) they'll be on the hook for income taxes as their commonwealth protection is gone.
