Those would be good things.
As for layoffs and/or reductions of hours, I do not like them at all. I don't even like them if they are justified by our volume levels. But if they are justified by our volume levels, they are going to happen no matter how much I don't like them.
The October restructuring hasn't been announced yet. (Pssst... it's not October yet). I know that you don't know what day it is, or month, but a calendar is your friend.
Just like me.
Your friend,
Dan.
R1a, got anything new from your sources ?
Dear Dano,
You kind of evaded the question, since it's pretty obvious what is going to happen in October even though it isn't here yet. "Suppose" you get 10 hrs less per week, and "suppose" you have to take a 4 hr split more than twice a week because the limitation on the number of split days will probably be ended (along with the 35 hr minimum). Justified? Approved by Dano.
Love,
MrFedEx
Sorry, but if there's not enough volume to support the hours, there's not enough volume. When you can do math, get back to us.
Question: Regarding all this talk of shifting volume from Express to Ground. Are you talking in full (meaning the Express Saver service in full) or part of it, like the long-hauling ? I spoke with an automation specialist at Fedex and even in their beta software for release this fall it has no Service/Labeling changes. To them they wouldn't know how an Ground person could pickup or delivery Express packages the way the labeling is done and stated it would be quite difficult to make these changes at the Op's level as well without a very large undertaking and they felt that transformation would be floating around since so many people would have to be involved, which it isn't.
So is this shift instead of flying freight across the US, they can truck it through the ground network, back to Express stations? Or are you thinking it's A to Z on the service, Express Saver becomes Ground for pick ups, moving and delivery? All your automation systems are saying no to a complete change over. To me it seems if anything its long hauling freight.
You don't "get it".

Yes it was. 1997 and right before the UPS strike. Great timing there FedEx upper management.Express Saver was initiated as an option back before Ground was owned by Express (fairly certain of this - the "old timers" can give a better date as to when Express Saver was implemented).
Here's my "math".
Former Express Volume - (Economic Downturn + Deliberate Upselling of Ground product)= Reduced Express Volume.
OR:
Fred's Desire for Profit + (Political Payoffs+ Lazy IBT+ Ground Scam)= Windfall Profits for Fred S
and always remember, there is nothing lower than a shill.
Express Saver will be eliminated as a shipping option for customers. Customers who currently use Express Saver will have two options 1) Choose to utilize 2nd Day Express shipping, 2) Choose to utilize FedEx Ground.
In this "go around", there will be no FedEx volume shifting - THE CUSTOMER will be forced to "shift" how their volume is moved. In a couple of years time, when the DELIVERY of 2nd Day volume is shifted over to Ground,
Sure there is. A guy whose math sucks, for example.
