Have my doubts. I'd think everyone can agree that covering the mouth and nose can reduce droplet transmission and touching of the face. Democrats arguing against masks now would come across like a @rickyb post.

could not agree three months ago. we like to blame our politicians but dont discuss the mixed messages coming from experts enough

which trump was supposed to encourage wearing the mask. the one whose experts were saying masks dont help three months ago or the one who's experts said wear the masks this month?

did Trump reverse himself or did his experts he relies on?

Think the experts have advised wearing them for a few months now?

In Reversal, Trump Urges Mask Use, Warns Coronavirus Pandemic Will Get Worse

"President Trump took to the White House briefing room on Tuesday to praise his administration's response to the virus that has killed more than 140,000 Americans so far. In a reversal of his recent statements and tone, he acknowledged the severity of the pandemic and urged Americans to comply with preventative measures.

"It will likely unfortunately get worse before it gets better," Trump said in uncharacteristically somber remarks, encouraging Americans to social distance, practice good hygiene and wear masks.

The president said his administration is in the process of developing a strategy for the coming months, including developing treatments and vaccines for COVID-19.

Trump — who has mostly cast mask usage as a personal choice and declined to wear one himself — urged people to wear face masks, citing a spike of cases in the Sun Belt in recent weeks.

"Whether you like the mask or not, they have an impact," he said."
I keep seeing these liberal news headlines saying Trump reversed his mask policy. That's really a stretch of the truth.

I guess the mixed messages didn't matter to me. Figured from the beginning that filtration material over my face was a good idea and that the experts were lying about masks to keep scarce supplies available to the medical community. Not that I expect everyone to have the same thought process.

It's unfortunately not that simple. Catching droplets is all fine and good, but that doesn't slow the spread of viruses. They didn't recommend masks at the beginning because they never had recommended their use for slowing the spread of respiratory illness, because the science has never supported it. Also, masks generally increase face touching, which is why they increase the risk for the wearer.

It is my assertion that the 180 on mask use recommendation was to get people to use any old filthy rag and stop hoarding the supplies that, if effective at all, are most likely to be effective in clinical settings, with meticulously proper use. But, healthcare workers make up 10-15% of covid cases, so what does that say about mask use?

its kind of like the gun laws. law abiding citizens will do whats asked. Meanwhile the thugs are in the streets spreading the disease while the cops stand off to the side handcuffed by democratic leadership

Respiratory illnesses don't generally spread very easily outdoors. But the inconsistency of the message, that it spreads during lockdown protests, but not during riots, is completely ridiculous.
