Coworker showed up drunk

Discussion in 'UPS Discussions' started by AwashBwashCwash, Nov 7, 2018 at 10:42 PM.

  1. Is this one of those things where you should tell your sup what is going on or do you just turn a blind eye and pretend nothing is wrong because management is the enemy?

haha okay you might want to work on having at least one!

yea dont snitch. the economy is rough, what else is he going to do. :censored2: management

  5. I don't know.
I felt bad but I did tell my sup that something was wrong with him. They ended up taking him into the office and then sending him home.
I mean he was completely :censored2:ed up hallucinating about things that weren't even there and just totally incapable of performing his job, which was eventually going to come back on me. His voice sounded completely different it was like he was a different person. If he gets fired he'll be screwed b/c he is older and is kind of a burn out with a lot of health problems. UPS health insurance has already saved his life once.
I'm not paid enough to be someone's mom at this place. There's so much political BS at UPS that I'm sure I've stumbled into some kind of quagmire by doing this though.

I would have told then to dissapear and call out sick / no-show if at all possible. Informing the boss would be the last possible resort to get them off the road.

At 12:42, you ask what to do. At 12:51, you tell us what you did and what happened to him. Don't post on the clock. You might get sent home, too.

    It's a moral dilemma.

On one hand, you don't want to rat out your fellow Union worker.

But.... what happens if he (or someone else) is seriously injured because of

his impairment ? It's a bad spot to be in.

I know that has happened before.

    One thing I don't understand is;

If he was obviously impaired, the company would just send him home ?

Usually that's an immediate "taken out of service" for a "fitness for duty"

evaluation. And then, the company (afterwards) won't let them leave the company

property on their own accord to go home.

These type of cases are always jacked up, and hard to defend.

Me? I would walk up to the worker and say you are acting GOOFY! Whats up?

What ever the cause??? Doesn't matter if his prescriptions are off, he/she is high or having some spacial disorder, DOESN"T MATTER!

My safety over his inability to show up and do his/her work safely means Addios M :censored2:
You should have told him either leave the workplace NOW! Or get management to evaluate him ASAP!

That's NOT being a snitch! That's not ratting anyone out! That's just keeping you and the rest of the crew safe from that person!

Stand up for your and others safety!

If you love your friends and coworkers. Tell him to call in sick and go to sleep in his car.

Don't show up to work stoned.

It's easier, to deal with attendance issues.... than it is.... for intoxication.

So it looks like OP was talking about a PTer
Basically as long as it does not involve driving, yard work, or some of the heavier equipment/ high-side ladders you could be mentally insane, drunk, high and stoned at the same time and still be relatively safe working.

Definately was not a bad choice to inform a sup about it. Still would not be my first option.
