Trying to time the market is a bad idea. Best to invest for the long term and not pay attention to short term swings.
I've heard that if you pick any 10 year span.........it's always a growth thing. I haven't checked it out........too busy making lots of $$$ in the market.

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.
ive got a friend who is a day trader. he has a computer with 7 screens and is making trades all day......a trading junkie.

some days he does great , other days not so good. he admitted to me that he is down overall. if he had put all his money in the Vanguard 500 he would be up whatever the s and p is up for 2017.

we have made 65k this year from all our conservative investments this year. not bragging cause know it could be all wiped out tomorrow .

we are thinking of buying a rental. we do diversify quite a bit with precious metals , REIT mutuals , bonds, etc. since being retired , we have moved more stuff into very conservative areas.

it is fun to play with the market, I agree. I do that with our SMA. It's almost exactly like casino gambling and you should only do that with money you can afford to lose........unless you are another Buffet.

good luck.

Apparently you don't watch the news either.

Never heard of the 2000's as the lost decade?

Why even bring up things you obviously haven't even bothered to do a 30 second google search on?

Again, for the 9th time.....I don't ever use Google!!!! Just like I never use an ATM. I just fill the wheelbarrows with cash....what do I know about the market???? Had a $90,000.00 day last week. Paid $120,000.00 in income tax this year and I already will owe more next year unless Trump passes something. So don't pay any attention to the lady behind the curtain!!

Riding your husbands coat tails doesn't count as jack.

You admitted in the same sentence that you hadn't checked it out.

That is like me saying I heard unicorns are real but I haven't really looked into it. Then being offended when someone calls me out on my BS.

Deplorable.
I was saying hypothetically it looks like we are going on strike in the next 6 months, like nothing is going right with contract negotiations, do you keep or sell your UPS stocks?

Employees actually buy UPS stock?

My 401k says my growth is up 14.26% this year so I assume that is decent? Also, I put $20 a week toward ups stock because of the discount, but I am half tempted to sell all of the stock sometime in December if the stock goes up because of peak.

Selling in December means you may have to pay capital gains tax on your profits.

I messed up one year when I waited until January to sell off some losers. I could have used the losses on my previous years taxes to offset some big gains.
