Extreme Cold

You will be called in early when the extreme negative temperatures are in, Not because of concern for your safety but because the board will be shutting down believe me. It’s what happened to us few years back when the temperature when’s down to -16

There would have been weeks off around here if they shut down when the temp is -16. I went past the building last week and it was 23 below. It looked like a full crew was working. I just chuckled to myself.

#3. When it's brutally cold out wear what you need to survive.

One day after a big snow storm, I showed up with bright red, knee-high gaiters I used for X-country skiing.

Boss told me I couldn't wear them. I said I can go home. He said get to work.

It was always amazing what the idiots (myself include) showed up to work in when it was brutally cold. Management never gave us a problem about it-then again they never rode with us on those days either. :-)

I could never figure out how the guys who wore those big leather chopper mittens (like you see them wearing in a sled dog race) could operate a pen or a DIAD.

Yes. That’s what’s heading our way.

On a bright note, will be near 40 (above) come the weekend.

Here in Chicago we have never been told we can't wear something when its in the severe cold (anything under 0). Guys show up in hunting gear, bibs, show pants, you name it. Do what must be done. If I was ever told I can't wear something, than it becomes a "safety issue"
