Gas Prices

So was mine...but you can still explain it if that floats your boat.:funny:

OK, it's all part of the Secret Plan that the Messiah will bring down the US economy with high gas prices, thereby making us even more dependent on evil Muslims and our Socialist government.

OMAHA, Neb. — A Canadian company that wants to build an oil pipeline to the Gulf of Mexico is again threatening landowners with court action if they don't sell TransCanada the rights it needs to build the Keystone XL pipeline.
TransCanada was criticized last summer for mentioning eminent domain in letters to landowners. Company spokesman Terry Cunha said TransCanada has agreements with more than 80 percent of landowners along the six-state route and wants to be ready if the project is approved.
The project is designed to carry oil from Canada across Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. TransCanada also has proposed connecting to the Bakken oil field in Montana and North Dakota.

Pipeline firm threatens to use eminent domain

Just move them thar injuns off their land and onto reservations and be done with it. I mean holding up railroad progress like that!

Oh yeah, them injuns are long gone aren't they, railroad too? Well then who in the hell are these upstarts anyway?

What! It's White People?

So, who cares ? Mexico decides to subsidy gasoline.
Americans subsidize the rich.

Take the $800 billion tax break for the rich away, and use it to subsidize gas.
Would probably be $2 a gallon !

We can reduce gas prices immediately if the gov't would temporarily stop the many different blends....East Coast Blend, West Coast Blend, etc....make one gasoline for all areas foe awhile.

The news (CTV) showed Europe's average gas price.
It's $2.25

That's $2.25 a liter though !

I don't mind high gas prices at all, either do many other Albertans and Canadians.
Province should be debt free in no time, and Canada can balance it's budget much sooner then the predicted 4-5 years.
$4.60 a gallon in Alberta now, $5.50 elsewhere.

Klein, I was stationed in Sicily in 1983. Gas was about $6/gallon at that time. Sicilians were used to it. Most of the cars that I saw were two-seaters. The pickup trucks that I did see were smaller than the Colorado that I used to own. A lot of people chose to ride their bikes rather than drive.

I am not in favor of subsidizing the price of gasoline and prefer that we let the market dictate the price and let consumers adjust accordingly.

Oh, I know, that's why all of Europe, over 95% of cars are small 4 cylinders and of them half are diesel. Very fuel effecient cars.
So, even though they pay twice the price for fuel, they actually pay just as much as we do at the pump in average or even less.

I guess Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, they aslo subsidize the gas prices for their citizens.
And, I must admit, some people bitch here, that our gas prices are higher then south of the border.
But, that's due to higher gas taxes here (provincial and federal taxes on fuel).

Other then that, we pay true market prices, even though we have the 2nd largest oil reserves worlwide.

I kind of disagree with the taxation system on gasoline (that it goes by percentage), meaning, if gas goes up 10 cents, roughly 55% goes towards taxes.
Meaning with a 10 cents raise in gas prices, the governments get 5.5 cents from it.
It defintly adds big time to the higher jumps we have seen recently, just so the oil price is recovered in the raising of gas prices.

But, in the end, states, provinces, and the feds do get extra money that they disperatly can use.
In some jurisdictions most of those gas taxes are dedicated to infrastructure, and everyone agrees a lot needs to be built and done in that sector.

If higher gas prices are here to stay, who knows ? - North America might finally get the superior public transit system they have in Europe and Japan ?

Besides all that, everyone can simply change their driving habits, too. Not only what they drive, but also how they drive and how often they drive.
Like the other day when I went to a "virtual" job fair. - Well, I knew the place was next to a Safeway, so I took my grocery shopping list with me, and did my shopping right after the fair, without even moving my car to the store, and I always try to get everything done in 1 trip, so I don't need to make another 1.
While I was working for the past 3 weeks, did the same, and before with UPS. - If I needed something - I got it on my drive home from work.
And it left my weekends free, and hardly ever had to use my vehicle on days off.

klein, one small problem about American driving conditions , our government.
They insist that every vehicle have so much added safety equipment that it is nearly impossible to compare European vehicles.
Also most European vehicles are turbo-charged while most American are not.

It's the opposite way around !
European vehicles have more safety devices.
They had 2 extra rear brake lights before they were even introduced here, and we only gotten a 3rd breaklight.
You ever noticed that Euro cars have yellow flashes as signal lights ? - So they never get mixed up with brake lights or rear lights.
The Californian Emission Standard - they fly by with ease !
Every trunk has a warning triangle installed, too. Incase you ever stall on the road, and usually a first aid kit, too.
Of course they have airbags, etc, too.

In Europe you pay registration fee (there they call it, vehicle-tax), based on the size of engine.
So, the manufacturers there, made these little 4 cyl engines very powerful ! :)
They have always had much more torque then North American built cars.
I don't even think gasloine with a low level of 87 octane is available there.
I drove an Audi, and it said minimum octane 91 required.

Moreluck, enjoy the cheaperst gasoline prices in the western industrialized world ! (I suppose excluding Mexico , because of the subsidy)
