North Carolina approves amendment banning gay marriage | Fox News

Obviosly, NC isn't part of the "Land of the Free" !
Well, I guess either is the entire US yet.

Must be a socialist thing to allow gay marriages, eh ?

You'll join the 20th or 21st century one day, I hope.

NC did it the way a social matter should be handled. It was voted on by the people and not forced by government or some court that wanted things done their way.

Then again I dont think its the governments business who marries who. If they got out of the marriage business all together this wouldnt be an issue.

Obama says his views of gay marriage have evolved over time.........and everybody is like....."Oh that's wonderful".

I wonder if the same will be true when Romney talks about blacks in the Mormon church and how things have evolved in the church's view of them over time.

The liberals will want to burn him at the stake. Only the Great One can have an evolving opinion and no one else.

I think Obama in one respect is following in republican footsteps. Republicans, especially conservative ones claim they are for small. limited gov't and yet when given the chance, they also evolve to make gov't bigger and far less limited than it ever was.

Actually it's not evolution but rather just telling the morons what they want to hear based on the latest polling data that plays to various voting blocks. Besides, this will inflame the "social conservatives" to act and say stupid things in public which plays right into the game that's wanted to be played!

Re: Gay marriage

Last night, Politico published a breakdown of how ABC’s Robin Roberts scored the President Obama gay marriage interview yesterday and, through several producers and media analysts, offered up these non-media-related credentials: Black. Christian. 50-year-old. Sports fan. Female.

The only part the report omitted was the near-open secret that Roberts is a lesbian. A source close to ABC executives told us that although the interview is, at this point, the biggest of her professional career, Roberts wasn’t overly enthusiastic about the scoop because she thought it would bring her own sexuality to the forefront.

“Most of the discussions [among TV people] today about why Robin got the interview have to do with her being gay,” a source told Gawker. “Not that she’s black, or friends of the Obamas.”
“Obviously they picked her because she’s black and gay,” said another industry insider familiar with the selection.

Plus, her mother was in town to visit her in New York, sources say. Watershed interview with POTUS or not, Roberts didn’t want to stand up mom.

This is the problem with the elected.....they are suppose to represent their people, not put them down for their decisions. What an elite, liberal snob!!!(MLK)

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant said Friday it was “petty” for North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue to insult Mississippi while bemoaning that voters in her state approved a ballot measure banning same-sex marriage.

Bryant, a Republican who became governor in January, said he intends to write to Perdue about her comments. She is a Democrat who isn’t seeking a second term.

Perdue was in Greenville, N.C., on Friday when she responded to questions from WITN-TV in Washington. She said she was disappointed voters in her state on Tuesday approved a constitutional amendment defining marriage as only between a man and a woman.

“People around the country are watching us and they’re really confused, to have been such a progressive, forward-thinking, economically driven state that invested in education and that stood up for the civil rights of people, including the civil rights marches back in the ’50′s and ’60′s and ’70′s,” Perdue said. “Folks are saying what in the world is going on in North Carolina. We look like Mississippi.”

In Jackson, Miss., Bryant said Perdue’s comments were “very disappointing.”
“To be able to use Mississippi in a disparaging way on a popular vote in her own state is, I think, something that’s certainly petty and something I think she will reflect on and hopefully apologize for those types of remarks,” Bryant told reporters after an unrelated news conference in Jackson.

Saturday, May 12, 2012 @ 11:34 am | [h=2]Kenya: Top Muslim Clerics Trash Obama For Backing Gay Marriage, Accuse Him of Playing God…[/h]

(Insert birther joke here)
(WaPo) — Kenyan Muslim leaders from the coast region have condemned President Barack Obama’s support of same sex marriages.

Speaking to the Nation in Mombasa, Council of Imams and Preachers Organising Secretary Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa accused President Obama of playing god by legalizing what “God Himself objects”.
“Simply because he has risen to be the President of a super power does not mean he can now start acting as God. He is nothing in the eyes of God and his plans will not succeed just like those who preceded him in such plans,” said Sheikh Khalifa.

He further accused the Kenya Human Rights Commission of propagating western values at the expense of religion by propagating for same sex marriages and abortion.

“God created man and woman so that we can procreate. How come we now want to behave worse than dogs who do not go for their own gender but know the difference between the two?” asked Sheikh Khalifa.

On Thursday, President Obama made history by firmly backing gay marriages after what he said was a long period of personal soul searching thereby sparkling instant speculations as to whether he had hindered his chances of winning a second term in November.

Re: Gay marriage

(The Hill) — Senate Democrats facing difficult reelections are breaking with President Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage, a sign the issue is politically dangerous in battleground states.
Sens. Jon Tester (Mont.) and Claire McCaskill (Mo.), the two most vulnerable Democratic senators, have declined to endorse Obama’s call for the legalization of gay marriage.

Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Bob Casey (Pa.) and Bill Nelson (Fla.), Democrats who have easier races but in states that could become more competitive by November, have also backed away from Obama’s stance.
They all represent states with constitutional amendments or laws banning same-sex marriage.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) predicted Thursday the Democratic Party would adopt a pro-gay marriage plank in its platform. While that may happen when delegates to the Democratic National Convention meet September in Charlotte, N.C., the party remains divided.

“Jon believes in civil unions for committed same-sex couples but in Montana a marriage is defined as between a man and a woman,” said Andrea Helling, Tester’s spokeswoman
.
Montana is one of 30 states with constitutional amendments defining marriage as between one man and one woman, according to Human Rights Campaign, a group that promotes gay rights.

James Lopach, a professor of political science at the University of Montana, said Tester is smart to separate himself from Obama on gay marriage.

“It comes down to independents, who make it somewhat of a swing state. Generally the independent vote in Montana is more conservative and Republican-oriented than Democrat-oriented,” he said.
“[Rep.] Denny Rehberg’s strategy is to tightly link Tester and Obama,” he added, in reference to Tester’s opponent.

Lobach said it would be a “political mistake” for Tester to match Obama’s stance on gay marriage.
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), who has been one of Obama’s closest allies in the Senate, has also kept her distance.

Her spokesman declined to endorse the president’s position. In an email to the Springfield News-Leader, John LaBombard said, “Claire recognizes this is a very personal issue for many Missourians” and said she thinks states should “take the lead in determining marriage equality.”

“The state of Missouri’s position on this issue has been clearly established since 2004 and nothing about today’s announcement changes that,” he added.

Missouri has a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

I don't see a problem with other leaders from western industrialized nations, such as Canada, all of Europe, Australia & NZ being hasseld over this issue.
If anything, the so self called country of "The Land of the Free" should have been first, and not last !
Mind you, it was "land of the Free" while slavery was still in place, too.

Hey , your beloved country of Germany had this gem of a second verse in Horst-Wessel-Lied, which was the co-national anthem of Germany from 1933-1945.

Clear the streets for the brown battalions,Clear the streets for the stormtrooper!Millions are looking upon the swastika full of hope,The day of freedom and of bread dawns!

Yes that day of freedom was dawning while the Nazis were running slave labor camps.

As for our star spangled banner, from which the term "the land of the free" comes from. It was not recognized as America's official national anthem until 1931, long after the official 1863 abolition of slavery.

So kiss my tuchus.
