"Big huge chunk taken out of the wall at the loading dock. Size of a ups truck" then just keep going
Wtf!!!? So if I deliver to a house and the gutter is broken I should notify management? You're as dumb as a sack of mouse crap
Ups... Making mountains out of molehills.....Now another can of worms will be opened I bet...my buddy who covered the route today was instructed by the on car to take photos at the place where this happened...the dock is blue and it is scrapped up and there is the tiniest bit of blue paint on the vertical part of the bumper... do they now have the means to fire me for lying and not reporting an accident when I honestly didn't know that this happened until now? I know it's only a tier 1 I'm reallyin worried because I just gained seniority a month ago after driving seasonal for the last year
Sht, the whole story is friend up... Is anyone following... What the Sam hell is going on here!?????Alright, what are we missing? Pieces aren't coming together in this story.
I would not send a message about something broken if it wasn't my fault. How many storm doors/screens/doorbells are broken on your route?! Mine? A lot. I've had a customer call in to complain and blame me for a broken doorbell and another for a broken rear window in an SUV. Some people just need to blame UPS to see if they'll fix it for free. I have been asked by management about the previous issues and they said 'ok' and told the customer to friend themselves. It looks like your management team isn't quite so team friendly. As long as you're not guilty of said offense, grieve everything they do to discipline you.
"Screen door handle/lock was already broken when I got here." Simple statement that could pay dividends if the customer tries to get UPS to repair/replace it for free.
They would have to give me a hell of a lot less stops to have me stop and notify of every broken thing on a route I seeReminds me of my last job, doing vehicle emissions inspections. We were required to inspect the vehicle for damage and fill out a form before letting the vehicle get inspected in order to cover ourselves. We were supposed to use common sense, and only document and seek management's signature when something could reasonably be blamed on us (whether we were responsible or not). But some people, burned one too many times, went to significant lengths to cover their asses. The most ridiculous pre-damage form I've ever seen documented a "dead fly on the dashboard." I'm not kidding.
So if you deliver to a house and the gutter is broken, should you notify management? Well, that's up to you. But I've worked with people who would do exactly that, as absurd as it sounds.
We deliver packages !!!
We don't drive around inspecting and inventorying bent basketball rims and broken screen doors.
If you didn't do it, the burden of proof is on them.
If you're that worried, take a pic with your cell phone and keep it. You don't message in every one !!!!

I would take every photo on a angle that would clear the driver..."Nope, can't be him"!Now another can of worms will be opened I bet...my buddy who covered the route today was instructed by the on car to take photos at the place where this happened...the dock is blue and it is scrapped up and there is the tiniest bit of blue paint on the vertical part of the bumper... do they now have the means to fire me for lying and not reporting an accident when I honestly didn't know that this happened until now?
