Then I talked to a coworker and we put the very low brow puzzle together. They don't want 5 sick days so they gave us 4. I have 20 hours banked but I've already used my 40

When you split it up, how many hours does UPS pay the days as?
If you split your option week you get 1/5 of 50, if you choose to split two weeks you split a regular vacation week 1/5 of 45. We have been recommended by the union not to split our weeks as sick time because that fulfills UPS's obligation to MN Safe and Sick Time. The law says any employer already offering sick time qualifies to the amount required, but if you choose not to split weeks here (we have no sick time in our supplement otherwise) then UPS has to fulfill the law by giving you sick time separately.

How are your sick days paid in your supplement?

When you split it up, how many hours does UPS pay the days as?

An example would be, UPS pays them at 8 hours. Another would be, UPS pays our days at 9 hours.

So, how do they pay them???

Ahhhhh. I’m not good at math. I think you might be screwed on how they are making you take your state sick and safe days.
I don't split my option week into sick days so I'm just going by the contract. It's confusing, I also misspoke. The supplement says we can split our option week as sick days. The option week is 50 hours. If we choose to split it is 10 hours per day. We can also break up another vacation week into individual days and get paid 9 hours for each day, but I don't think they can be used as call ins only scheduled off requests.

After getting some answers about your earned PTO, I think the company is just paying the state time the same they pay it in your supplement. It’s not necessarily that they are trying to screw you over. In our supplement in NJ, we get 3 sick days contractually at 8 hours each. Any State sick time is also paid at 8 hours.
It probably has more to do with the way your time is paid out to begin with.

Why are you blaming the company? The union already negotiated sick time-personal and vacation time on your behalf, no?
