How long did it take you drivers to become drivers?

Richard Harrow

Deplorable.
Started part time loading at UPS three weeks shy of my 19th birthday, started full time driving three weeks shy of my 22nd birthday.

It all depends on your building.

Also if everyone can add how their performance was during their before driver days too, did you have every thing on point and still took that long? A friend of mines whose a retired truck driver told me people who took more than 3 years to become a truck driver were either written up before, late, or always calling sick. True or false or somewhat

False. It's all by seniority. And it's a union job.

TCD after 2 and 1/2 years. Full time after 6 and 1/2 years. Worked full time as a TCD as soon as I became one and never went back to the hub. The contract has changed since then to punish centers that used TCDs like that back then. They do avoid using them more than 156 reports a year.

SCV good to go sir.

I was wondering, did you guys do preload during all those years before becoming a driver?

I started off in the preload (mostly sorting but loading often), then I transferred to twilight as PC unloader before going back on the sort aisle.

My performance was really crappy at first and gradually increased over time. That retired truck driver is wrong, it's all seniority based.
