I need advice on 401K

Brownslave688

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.
How do I get started with it and can I contribute to both standard 401K along with the Roth? I contribute 5% to standard 401K. Should I have an IRA as well?
Have you considered hiring a financial advisor?

I really think one would be greatly beneficial to you and set you down the right path.

I got a letter the other dayfrom the Teamsters There is a company called Morningstar and they will manage your account for .02%. Seems like something beneficial to the OP.

Are you doubling up your allocations? Meaning....are you contributing to the same funds in the Roth as you are in the Traditional 401k? I've read that it's better not to....but I've also heard the opposite and also that it doesn't matter. LOL!
My 401k is all pretax. I have a ROTH IRA that I put an equal amount in.
Wanted some different choices than our 401k plan offers.

Different choices? Then the answer is no. LOL! I just split mine equally between the UPS 401k and Roth. I had it all going to the Roth. I can't find much information on whether or not they should be allocated the same. I would think that they shouldn't be since they are in different "buckets" but on the other hand I can see why someone would want them the same.

We don't really have a lot of choices in our 492k. That's why I did it that way. Opened a ROTH for me and my wife..

I think you will do quite well with the way you are doing it

Right now they are both exactly the same. I also dropped the Bright Horizon fund and had been planning on doing that even before I decided to split my savings among the Traditional and Roth. I think I'll probably go outside of UPS for the rest like you have.

I was just looking at that tonight. Changed from all pre-tax 401k to pre-tax 401k + Roth 401k. Then I guess when it kicks in on Tuesday I can then change my allocations amongst the two vehicles.

40% S&P 500
20% S&P 400
20% International Index
20% Total Bond Fund (or whatever the main bond fund is called)

Those allocations are the same for both pre-tax and Roth. Hope I'm doing this right and really hope I'm not making this too complicated. I'm trying to get to the point where I can leave it alone and look at it just a few times per year.

I still tempted to invest in different funds for the Roth because I've heard and been told that it's better to not double up. Meaning....invest in the same funds for both.

Currently I'm 5% invested in traditional 401K, looking to rollover into Roth 401K. My allocations are in the bright horizon 2035 fund. You all think I should stick with both 401Ks or rollover in the Roth? Thinking of jumping to at least 10%

You can't roll a traditional 401k into a Roth 401k

Sorry I forgot that I cant just roll it over to a Roth. When I contribute to Roth, just zero in what I've been putting in my original 401k, then put that percentage towards Roth?
