If the contract is voted down, what are the top 3 things you would like changed or ad

TheVoice

Not for arguments sake of whether its valid or justified or not, what are the top three things people want addressed or changed if this thing is sent down? Mind you, this includes yes voters, if this thing is sent down, what things would you want on top of what is offered?
Lets try to keep this thread non-argumentative and counter-debate-neutral (whatever that means), lets just see the issues that people are concerned about.

The three top things I would like are:

No split wage increase.

More combo/full-time job language

Stronger article 34 language. Especially as related to health insurance and re-allocation of GWI.

You smell that?
Re: If the contract is voted down, what are the top 3 things you would like changed o

Leave the 8hr language alone or make it stronger.

Remove the GPS language.

Remove the "Act of God" provision for supervisors working.

The rest I can live with.

For me, its a little more indepth, but rather than bore you to death, i will list the top reasons IMO.

1) ALL GPS language striken and replaced by:

"No employee shall be disciplined or terminated for information solely recieved from GPS/Diad or any subsequent electronic systems."

2) Remove "Act of God" from Sup working article.

3) All article 37 language for 9.5 & 8.0 striken and replaced with:

"All full time seniority drivers shall be granted two (2) 8 paid day hour days per month if requested."

"No full time driver shall be dispatched longer than 10.5 hours onroad between the months of January thru August each year, then 11.5 hours from September thru December"

"The employer shall take into consideration, weather (rain, extreme heat, snow and lightning) when dispatching drivers and the employer shall take the necessary steps to limit the drivers exposure to extreme weather."

4) No split raises ever.

5) Lunch periods addressed and made to match state law.

6) All accidents shall be reviewed with the Stewards of the package centers and stewards may investigate if needed to dispute chargeability.

These are my hot buttons right now..

Part timers, I havent forgot about you, I just listed whats hot in my mind.

Peace.

No split wage increase
No P/T ground drivers in the Central supplement
No GPS discipline
No 9.5 opt-in opt-out, what Einstein thought of that?

1. If you work over 9.5 it's automatic double time no need to file a grievence.

2. No gps or other technology discipline

3. P/T could choose more $$ on the hour or to take benefits with a 3 month wait to see if thet stick around

1) Fed Ex would not take any of our volume.

2)UPS would not have to raise rates (abnormally) thereby making us even less competitive.

3)Teamsters would not lose its last major bargaining unit by putting
UPS in the position of having to bust the union to survive long term.

1. NEW 22.3 COMBO JOBS!

2. Additional $1 catch up raise for PTers only, as in the 2002 contract.

3. Better language for 8 hr days and over 9.5 for drivers. THEY DESERVE BETTER.

Strike the 18 month language for part-timers to receive benefits, I agree with alot of what Brown Shark said, especially re: Art 37, also the heat in the trucks once again wasn't addressed satisfactorily, so that should be addressed as well as all non-power steering trucks should be crushed before the contract expires.

As far as pension a real cola needs to be negotiated, matching our 401 k would be nice too.

Other than that Shark had good points all around.

Re: If the contract is voted down, what are the top 3 things you would like changed o

1) Fed Ex would not take any of our
volume.

Competition will always take business when UPS intentionally service fails its current volume. Drivers making deliveries to customers at 9PM after a customer waited all day at home and took the day off because UPS and the shipper sent them an email telling them that the delivery would be between 9am and 6pm. UPS will always be the cause of its own "churn", not the Teamsters.

2)UPS would not have to raise rates (abnormally) thereby making us even less competitive.

UPS will always raise its rates in accordance with the current market conditions and the expected rise in wages for the year. During booming years, UPS never reduces prices to customers, it just banks the cash and spends it on useless managers and part time sups who dont have a clue.

UPS will always make itself less competitive with rediculous dispatching and extended delivery hours. Currently, we are the last trucks on the road each day and the last ones in. The competition is the first to be seen on the roads and they bring in all their packages ontime in order to make service, unlike UPS which brings us heavy pickup drivers in at 930 pm with over 1000 pkgs and we miss the unload sequence and the packages sit until the next day.

3)Teamsters would not lose its last major bargaining unit by putting
UPS in the position of having to bust the union to survive long term.
Unlikely, But you did stay at a Holiday inn last night.

I'd offer to sell you a clue, but I think it would be a waste of your money.

Peace.

Re: If the contract is voted down, what are the top 3 things you would like changed o

#1- Add $1 to the starting part-time rate for each year of the contract.

#2- All work past 8.5 hrs paid double time, for every day of the week, if on the opt out list, which would be posted the first Monday of every month. (This would all but end any forced overtime and create a good number of full-time jobs.)

#3- Keep pension and health care provided for in the previous agreement with increases for inflation and rising costs.

Increases in my pay aren't my primary concern.

1) More staring money for ptimers! At least $12 an hour!

2) More 22.3 jobs, we all win when we get a combo preloader loading our trucks.

3) Leave us with our current language, and we will take the petty raises!

Re: If the contract is voted down, what are the top 3 things you would like changed o

Top 3 to amend are:

1. 8 hour is 8 not 8.5 and get rid of events beyond their control!!!!
Make it overtime like all other penalties, add 2 per driver in NOV
since option days and vacations used in NOV, so should 8 hour days!

2. 9.5 hour should be opt in or out from month to month, not 5 month periods!
Excess 9.5 hours should be automatic double time if on list, except in acts of God.
Lose the new committee that talks about UPS protecting its integrity since they do
not have any!!!

3. Get rid of GPS and any other form of technology discipline!! If they think that you
are off area, they will need to catch you in person which is not so hard.

Top 3 to reinstate:

1. We need to put the additional NEW 22.3 combo jobs back in!!!!!

2. We need to give the part timers their benefits back, or give all of them a 180 day
$2 raise and leave the 90 day .50 cent raise in there!!

3. We need to put back in that cover drivers can not be used as a convienence to
offer full timers time off unless they reduce the 200 reports needed down to
156 reports to be promoted to full time!!!!!!!!

Top 3 to add:

1. If a driver files an excessive ride grievance no sup will ride again, and if there is a
violation the grievant will be paid double time for the every time it occurs again!!

2. Drivers should be permitted to keep the trucks that they had on the route when
they bid on it barring a drastic rise or drop in volume requiring size change in
car size!! Also if truck is taken and should not have been there should be a
double time penalty to stop this form of harassment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. Roll away accidents should only be cardinal sin if injury or death occurs!!!
I have seen times where driver accidentally hit gear with box and did not realize
until it was too late!!! 20 year driver fired for truck doing minor damage to fence
or other property should be warning letter and driver pays cost of damages both
for truck and other parties property instead of termination!!!!!

Top 3 I just remembered:

1. Pro rata should count for option days too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. TAW should be 8 straight hours period!!! Not make a reasonable effort crap!!!

3. Change vacation earned to 1 after 1 year
2 after 3 years
3 after 5 years
4 after 10 years
5 after 15 years
6 after 20 years
and give the part timers back their sick days after the 1 year and 156 reports!!!

The only thing that really struck me is the way you worded this. Do you think GPS language should not be used for discipline even if it can be verified as accurate and the driver was really doing something wrong?

I agree that it should not be used frivolously or abused in any shape or form so I'm not sure exactly how you intended your comment.

1 and 2 I like and number I'm familiar enough with so can't comment.

Re: If the contract is voted down, what are the top 3 things you would like changed o

1. Mandatory paid day off (compensation day) at the driver's convenience for denial of 8 (not 8.5) hour request.

2. $2 per hour raise upon ratification of contract. The other pay raises can remain the same.

3. Change lunch hour language to "1 hour is allowed, unpaid, but not required unless mandated by state law".

Or, triple time for drivers who work during their lunch hour.

4. Remove all language relating to peak, or else allow an exemption from paying dues from October 1 to December 31.

5. No one is allowed to work more than 9.5 hours per day without triple pay after the 9.5th hour. If you want to make more money, then bump the guy with the 3 hour bonus route.

That's all I have right now...

I'd say there are alot of good ideas hear. Now if only someone from the teamsters were listening and there's no way to stop at only 3 changes. I still think we have a better shot at a better contract with only upsers bargaining for upsers and not the way it now.
