"The U.S. Department of Labor has encouraged essential workers subjected to unsafe conditions to submit whistleblower complaints. In a statement Wednesday, the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) detailed “more than 20 whistleblower protection laws” to ensure proper working conditions for all Americans.
The statement also serves as a warning to employers, who have been reminded it is prohibited to retaliate against employees who wish to open investigations into their working conditions.
The whistleblower complaints can be made orally, either on the phone or at an OSHA office, or in writing through the Labor Department’s website. Complaints cannot be filed anonymously.
“Employees have the right to safe and healthy workplaces,” stated Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Loren Sweatt. “Any worker who believes that their employer is retaliating against them for reporting unsafe working conditions should contact OSHA immediately.”
