Firearms recently became the number one cause of death for children in the United States, surpassing motor vehicle deaths and those caused by other injuries.

Ok.

So......taking this to your leading, logical conclusion.....

Motor vehicles rise to the top again(or whatever).....do we eliminate them also? Swing sets etc...? Swimming pools....?

See......airplanes(for example) don't cause deaths.....it's the 150 g's pushing your spine through your skull at 500 mph....as the airplane hits solid ground.

Your statement is out of context and at the very least......intellectually disengenous/dishonest.

Now, as you say guns aren't necessary or needed....well.....the road to hell and tyranny is paved with such statements.

Cars and airplanes provide an obvious and widespread social utility. “Assault rifles” (the legal classification under federal law), for example, provide no such widespread social utility and are arguably not worth their societal drawbacks.

For example, we understand and accept as a society that more cars and airplane travel will result in measurably more child deaths but taken as a whole are worth the trade off. Firearms scattered far and wide across the country with flimsy oversight that result in measurably more child deaths are simply not worth those extra deaths. It’s a cold calculation and a discussion that’s long overdue in our so-called civil life.

Enraged? That's your machinations......projection. For some reason...you guys mislabel discussion with enragement.

Again....fact?

Someone pulled that trigger......cause and fact. NOBODY(except the Brits) ever mentions banning knives or baseball bats or hands(strangulation).....certainly huge causes of death.....guns a favorite liberal cause.

The Fukishima Power Plant didn't kill anyone......mounting the backup generators in the lowest place on the property did and of course the earthquake that produced a tsunami that drowned out the generators....that caused a radiation leak....

Stupid people killing cats because of superstition worsened the Black Plague....this killed half of the population of Europe...half.

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in the United States.
It's tragic but when you consider the number of children dying by guns, cancer, etc it's very small in comparison to the number of people who defend themselves and others from being harmed. Assuming you're pointing out children dying as a justification for ending gun ownership.

A cold calculation....indeed. A cold, liberal calculation.

Now, this "we" business...who is we?

Now this "acceptance".....Democrat liberals are working feverishly to abolish both cars and airplanes. No? Absolutely.

BTW....one is a unit of measure.

You said we "accept" the risks of say cars and airplanes(see above) that killing kids was for the greater good......you hear that from liberals..."for the greater good".

Yet, firearms....absolutely not. Noting the liberal agenda on firearms is far more wide-ranging and sinister than so-called "assault weapons". This is settled history.

I was simply pointing out that liberals(you) are feverishly trying to get rid of cars and airplanes(for the greater good) of the environment and of course because they cause so many children's deaths....for example.

We could say, it depends if you are liberal....I guess. Killing kids in cars...OK(acceptable you say). Accidentally by firearm....bad. Therefore we should punish literally hundreds of millions for accidents or crimes. Of who have the right to keep and bare arms.

You keep saying "measurably".....one death(child) is a unit of "measurement"....this is measurably.
What… are you talking about?
See above.

Actually, the statistic is #1 cause of death in children is unintentional injury(30%) part of that includes a firearm.

Again, did the person pulling the trigger cause the death or was it the gun? Interesting these statistics include18/19 yo.

I’m for special federal licenses required to own and operate AR-15 style rifles. And for a Congress to be nimble about how fast they react to new weapon mods.

Gotta do a better job at keeping these types of weapons out of the hands of sick individuals.

I’m for weapons training for everyone. Mandatory service and even if not armed services, firearms training incorporated in some way.

Why?

Because after recently becoming interested in firearms, I’ve noticed that many gun laws are just stupid. But you really don’t know that until you understand the actual gun culture and firearms in general. I’m not at all against gun control. It should just be smart and the people passing such legislation and the people electing those people should understand what they’re talking about.

Why training? Because Israel has mandatory service. They also don’t have a lot of citizen on citizen gun violence. I think it’s a model that could work for us.
